Five months ago, my heart was broken into peices by him that cheated on me with my cousin. After the incident, I isolated myself from everyone, including my family and closed friends. I fell into a mild depression that now gives me anxiety.. the anxiety that has kept me away from falling in love and getting my heart trampled on again.
After Marcus broke my heart, I didn't know what to do with my life. I just stayed at the library for about two weeks, killing myself in my own sadness. I didn't go home after college and went straight to the City library. I didn't want to go bumping into Lillian at home and trying my best to stay away from Marcus too. I heard from Aunt Geneva, he came over to house almost everyday for the whole weeks. I still remember the day after he cheated on me, although he was sorry and apologizes that he's drunk thinking Lillian was me, I still can't get over myself to forgive him.
Luckily after that depressing weeks, I started focusing on finding a new college and getting out of home. But I get a few anxiety attacks here and there. The second time I closed my eyes, memories of Marcus and Lillian in bed... My mind got lost in the abyss of the painful memories till this day, memories that still haunt me to the core. A shiver ran down my spine as I gathered my knees and scooped myself in my own cocoon, trying to soothe my aching mind.
My whole body frozed and I turned toward the window, the night sky was clear with stars blinking everywhere. I held my gaze up in the sky for a few seconds recalling them together in Lilian's bed. As much as I hate tears, I couldn't stay away from it, like the tears were bound to to be here. We, both were actually engaged for 2yrs to be married in a year time. I quickly wipe away my eyes with the palm of my hands. Why does the one I love, eventually betrayed me? Years of relationship just gone in a blink of an eye.
...~...~...
Recalling, after their first fight few years back, she did tried to go and spend some time alone. She had been too angry and too hasty to try and understand Marcus. A little mistakes... That was ok, though, because eventually we had come to agreed upon certain things that needed to happen in their relationship. He understood that she had days she needed to vent, to let out. Likewise, she understood that he needed to have his space sometimes. By far one of the best things they had done was have "safewords" for arguments.
It was pretty simple actually. When they started arguing, if either started to get to a true breaking point, they could use our safeword and they would stop fighting and explain what they were feeling calmly without interrupting each other. He, being the Vice-President and 2nd heirs, had known where each other's limits were.. was a great thing for their relationship. It had helped them to realized where the areas that shouldn't be crossed, even as a joke.
For her, she came to realize that mistakes were an integral part of relationships. A real relationship wasn't born out of a couple that didn't make mistakes, it was born out of a couple that was willing to work through those mistakes. And for every mistakes, they promised to work through them together. But now, that one mistake cannot be dealt with. Just one betrayal.. had caused her severely heart broken.
...~...~...
She and Marcus had already parted and it's had been five months now, she shrugged slightly. It still bothered her a little that they hadn't kissed goodbye but it was stupid to be upset over something so trivial as that, and she tried to put it at the back of her mind. After all, today was going to be a much bigger day than most and she had far more important things to concern herself with.. her upcoming interview tomorrow.
Come the day for interview.....
Once the elevator doors opened on the 28th floor, I quickly walked to the clerk's desk and waited until she got off the phone so I could tell her about my interview. "How may I help you?" After the clerk was done, pretty blonde with brown eyes asked. "Hi. I'm Ruby Tang, I was here for the interview... at 10.00am." I trailed off giving her a sheepish smile.
With that she picked up the phone again and started another call while I took the time to admire my surrounding. The entry had a red carpet and a few potted plants.. real ones. The hallway was huge with grey to white walls and several doors on either side of the hallway. Several grey couches lined the walls right next to the doors and in one corner there were two women sitting in front of a closed door, probably waiting to be interviewed.
It's finally her turn, she knocked on the door. A husky voice shouted "Come in." Ruby opened the door and stepped inside. "Sit down." The man spoke without looking up. He appeared to be doing some paperwork behind his desk. She walked towards his desk and took a seat opposite him.
Ruby was inside the meeting's office for 10 minutes now. Finally finishing his work, he stood up, outstretching his hand towards her. "Hi, I'm the co-CEO of Stark Industries Corporation, Lucas Yii. Sorry to kept you waiting." Ruby shyly took his hand with her own, careful not to not knock over her coffee the secretary brought earlier. "Ruby Tang." She paused. "Also a 2nd year student of Spark college, transferred from Woon University. And here for an interview."
Spark International College was owned by Spark Industries Corporation, catered only for the rich and talented ones. Not everyone could be admitted here, but she was considered lucky to have been selected based on her exam results.
Gosph, he was handsome. His skin was a light tan and he had a full head of thick, black hair which was trimmed short and combed neatly. His eyebrows were also thick, though they were shaped into an angled arch. His dark eyes appeared to be staring right through her with intensity. She couldn't see much of his body, but from what she saw from his torso, he appeared to be quite a muscular guy. His shoulders were broad and his face was chiseled, appeared to be a well-groomed man around 32 to 35yrs of age.
For the past five months, Ruby has been living by herself in this small town, in City A. She was informed of the infamous group which consisted of... of course, the hottest guys in town. There were four of them; the bad guy, Aaron Yung who does small investment but always gets into trouble; the quarterback, James Hwang who plays well in football; the golden guy Dennis Poon who is a sharp lawyer and the smart alec who is the head of the boys group and the smartest one.. Lucas Yii. One thing, they all had in common was their looks, prestige and wealthy background, above all the four are the best of friends since childhood.
Lucas stared at her for a moment. "Do you have your resume with you?" He questioned. "Yes, it's right here." She pulled out her resume together with all her certificates, handed it across the desk. He took it into his large hands and opened the folder, flipping through the packet. A minute passed by while he read over the documents, his attention was directed towards Ruby. "Why should I hire you?" The question completely caught her off guard.
All her time practicing in the mirror completely went out of the window upon being hit with the question. "I...um, uh." She stuttered, trying to formulate a sentence. However, the co-CEO wasn't cutting her any slack. "Your resume-writing is mediocre but you don't have any working experience. Furthermore, you're still a college student. So tell me, Ms. Ruby Tang, why should I hire you?" Her eyes grew wide in shock. She wasn't expecting to be drilled so hard, especially at an interview.
"What made you choose this chair?" Came that cool husky voice again. "Well as your personal PA, I should always try be near you in case you need anything or any information, sir." She thought and answered politely. Then he asked again. "And what makes you think you'll get the job?"
After few minutes of silence. "Positivity. If I come here thinking I'll fail then there would be no point in this interview because I would never think 'myself' as capable for the job. If I don't believe in myself, then how can I make others believe what I'm capable off...?" She answered.
"I see." And then he began typing something in his laptop on the table. "Okay, so I'll ask you a few questions and you will be out of here." Lucas assured her as he clicked his pen, his hand positioned at the first question on the paper and his body slightly hunched to get a better look at the paper. She nodded, ok.
First question. "Do you believe in love?" She scoffed, recalling those bad memories. "No.. not anymore." He glanced up at her from under his long lashes. "Why is that so?" She merely shrugged, stirring her coffee that was slowly turning cold. "Why believe in a word that holds no promise and value in the end?" Hearing her replied, he asked. "Have you ever been hurts in love before?"
Ruby just kept quiet looking down at her clenched hand, in thought. 'What has this gotta do with her interview. Whether she's hurt or not, it doesn't consent anyone.'
Lucas noticing her quietness, sensed something wrong, quickly change the subject. "So, tell me how do you plan on balancing your times, college and this part-time job? Won't you tire yourself out?" Lucas frowned.
"Most likely, but it's something that I have to do. Besides, my classes are usually in the morning and ended by 1.00pm. Furthermore, my semester break.. next week and I need to survive in this town. Money to me is more important now. I don't plan to call home for it again." Ruby responded with determination.
