Neil hesitated a minute and then asked, “Tell me, Rolf, if I had asked you to leave the island with me, would you have come?”

“Of course I would. And if I had asked you to stay? Even if you had no vet job?”

“I think you know that answer already,” Neil said. “Nothing is more important to me than our being together.”

“Nor to me,” Rolf added.

They wrapped arms around each other again and shared another kiss. It held the promise of a fuller celebration when they were alone at home later, a celebration that was sure to include Mr. Action Jackson and Mr. Bratwurst as Neil had affectionately dubbed Rolf’s super-sized appendage.
