“Hi, guys,” she said as she took hold of one of the bridles. “Takin’ some time off, but ya just can’t get enough of these horses, can ya?”

They got out of the surrey and walked the short distance to the observationplatform overlooking the straits. The sun was setting, casting a fiery glow over the water. Small waves, looking like ripples from high above, caught the light and made the water sparkle and dance. The sails of recreational sailboats were red in the light of the setting sun, as were the plumes of the island ferries that ploughed through the water, going to and from the island with their loads of tourists, frequent now that they were in high season.

“Wow,” Jordan said. “This is really something.” He took out his phone and began snapping pictures. He had the men pose at the rail of the observation deck and asked a tourist to take pictures of all four of them together. “I’m gonna send these home,” he said.
