Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Interception

Ripley's POV

Since it had rained for most of the day, the leaf litter didn't crunch underfoot. Ripley was thankful for the small blessing.

She snuck through the woods, just off the path. Her trail had started where the remains had been found.

It was a camping spot.

Ripley didn't know why she hadn't noticed it before. It was a little cleared out area for tent camping. They were littered along this trail.

That made significantly more sense. The creature must like fast food. It was probably picking off solo campers.

Heavy cloud cover kept any moon or starlight from lighting the night around her. It was cold, the air heavy with campfire smoke from fires that had long since been extinguished. Ripley crept ever onward, deeper into the wood.

A stick snapped.

The pistol in her hand was cold. Condensation from the wet air clung to it. Ripley raised it in front of her, the light attached to it illumination the path.

Nothing.
