Ripley's POV
"I owe you a lifetime of gratitude," Ripley said to Gemma.
Gemma looked up from her book, startled. "You owe me nothing," she responded.
"Gemma, I know you don't like me, but you saved my life. I owe you a debt for that." Ripley watched Gemma with careful eyes as Gemma set her book aside.
"I don't exactly understand what you are, but I know you sacrificed half of your power to save my son. I owe you a debt for that," Gemma said, standing to be face to face with Ripley.
Ripley threw her arms around Gemma's neck. "Consider us even."
Gemma hesitated for a moment before wrapping Ripley in a tight hug. It might not be a fully repaired relationship yet, but it was a healthy start.
Ripley pulled free from the hug and offered an earnest smile to Gemma before traipsing up the stairs.
Jake was already bundled under the covers, reading a book.
Ripley rushed to him, leaping into the bed.
He put his book on the nightstand and pulled Ripley into his arms.
