1. Chance
Drips of water begin to fall from above, accompanied by the gradually increasing frequency of ticking sounds which filled the silence in the dilapidated home. As time passes, the sky become much darker, welcoming the change of day to night.
A man once said that human's greatest fear is the unknown and it has been a week since Leon woke up in this unfamiliar world, feeling full of uncertainty but also expectation and curiosity toward the future.
Leon who was still sitting at a wooden table once again looked at the mirror beside it, seeing a face that can be said to be above average, almond shaped eye with an almost perfect symmetry and long flowing hair, He once again confirmed that everything he experienced so far is not an illusion.
Since the first day of Leon rebirth, not like any other muddle headed 'individuals', he understand the importance of information. Using those week by visiting to different places, he tried to overhear news and learn about the world where he will continue his life in.
A week of information plus his inherited memory from the original Leon memory was quickly summarized by Leon in his table. Though he can confirm that this Leon is also himself, his previous life memory is still vivid, seemingly an event that just happened yesterday.
Leon found that this places where he lived was called the Last Federation in which also correspond to the last safe shelter of humanities. Outside of this city is a land eroded in darkness, full of horrors and dangers.
It is said that the outside world full of darkness will inspire the fear within a person and make someone degenerate into a monster when a certain limit is passed, even the slightest fear can be infinitely magnified depending on the places visited as such the humans divided the places which they referred as Dark Land to 9 stars, in which 1 star is the 'safest' place to be in, while 5 star and above are famous for it's 100% casualty rate.
Sadly, every human's was forced to go out once in a while as there are a time in which human can also degenerate when they stayed in the city continuously for a long time, since then human population have reduced to nearly only 0.01% of it's original size.
Although Dark Land seems to bring misfortune, it also brought a hope in the dark, humans that stayed in the dark will gain point's according to their survival time that can be exchanged for strength that started from tier 1 and so on while at the same time used as a currency in the city.
In an attempt to increase humanity survival rate and prevent their extinction, many people tried inhuman means, which included different type of torture and abuse to make them lose their emotion of fear but as it also make them lose all of their emotion and increased their disregard of life, humans decide to ban this practice.
As a result new ways to combat fear keep appearing and gradually shaped itself as what is known today as 'House of Trials'. The concept of 'House of Trials' is similar to the haunted house that Leon known from his previous life introducing many elements that are targeted from the weakness within the human heart to slowly increase the resistance of the fear in human's heart that will experience in Dark Land.
