Dr. Alexander Grant, a professor of Roman law, is mysteriously transported to an unfamiliar medieval world after he suddenly dies of a heart attack. Stranded in a land where ancient castles dot the landscape, knights enforce feudal laws, and powerful nobles vie for control, Alexander must use his deep knowledge of history, politics, and military strategy to survive and ultimately thrive.

Realizing that a return to his time may be impossible, Alexander decides to use his knowledge to build a society that embodies his ideals. He begins his journey as a small child somewhere in the slums of the capital of the Empire.
