Brianna stood with her mouth agape, stuttering, "I-I-I..."
Adele rarely gets upset, but when she's sober, the slightest things piss her off. She's terrifying when she's angry, just like her mother who disappeared shortly after the wedding toast.
Brianna wanted to apologize but thought, 'Why should I apologize first? She's the one who pissed me off in the first place!' She swallowed her anxiety and folded her arms across her chest, "You know what? I'm not sorry for spilling water on you."
Brianna pointed at Adele's drenched chest, "That would've been avoided if you weren't being such a secretive bitch!"
A crowd started to form around the bickering duo; phones came out and the reporters, though kept from the celebration by a rope circling the dining area, immediately started swarming to record the altercation between the bride and her maid of honor.
Adele's mother, Maria, was still nowhere to be seen.
Brianna's eyes traveled the room, and her heart began to race when she saw the multiple cameras aimed at her and Adele. The last thing she wanted was to cause a scene; her grandmother specifically told her not to do anything that would cause the royal family bad press.
The queen already doesn't like her, hence her absence. Without the pregnancy, she wouldn't have approved of Brianna's relationship with her nephew.
Brianna leaned in closer to Adele, using her hands to cover her mouth so the nosy, muttering onlookers wouldn't be able to read her lips. "Can we talk somewhere private?" she whispered.
"You yelled at my face, spilled water on me, refused to apologize, and now you want me to conform to your wishes?" Adele questioned, raising a perfectly arched brow.
"Okay, I'm sorry," Brianna quickly whispered. "Now can we please go talk somewhere private? You know how the press is, don't know?" She gave Adele a desperate expression as she continued, "They can spin the smallest of things into something major and incredibly untrue."
"Please, Adele," Brianna pleaded.
Adele's irritated expression was replaced by a sweet smile, but her sparkling, blue eyes showed how bitter she still was. "You're right," she started and Brianna smiled as Adele continued, "They fabricate a story around anything and everything."
Brianna was overjoyed that Adele was cooperating, but her happiness was short-lived. The smile fell from her lips when Adele added, "So, we must tell them the truth to avoid them creating nasty lies."
Adele faced the crowd, and Brianna's eyes widened in panic. She could guess what Adele was up to, and was willing to do anything to stop her. Luckily for her, she wasn't the only one with secrets.
Brianna grabbed Adele's arm, pulling her closer to her before pressing her lips against her ear, "If you say a word I'll tell everyone about the little crush you have on your mother's fiance."
Adele clenched her jaw, staring daggers at Brianna who was smiling smugly but was extremely anxious behind her challenging expression. She knew how spiteful Adele could be, but would she really cut off her nose to spite her face?
Adele broke the heated silence, covering her mouth as she whispered, "Slap me."
Brianna furrowed her brows in confusion as she whispered back, "What?"
"Slap me," Adele repeated. "We have to conclude whatever this is somehow."
Brianna wasn't sure what Adele was up to, but she was willing to do whatever to get this thing between them over with. She raised her hand, her expression hardening as she remembered what Adele did with Elliot during her wedding banquet.
Gasps echoed throughout the room as Brianna's hand landed firmly on Adele's cheek which immediately reddened after the painful and loud impact.
'That felt so good,' Brianna thought. She didn't realize before how long and how much she wanted to do that.
Adele was visibly stunned by the slap though she was the one who initiated it. She didn't expect Brianna to slap her so hard. She was going to slap her back and march away as she planned in her thoughts, but as she saw a waiter pass with a bottle of red wine, a new idea came to mind.
Adele grabbed the bottle of red wine from the waiter just as he was going to pour it. She fought the urge to have a taste and, before Brianna could react, poured it over her head.
Brianna's dark brown hair which cascaded down her back in beautiful waves now looked like the fur of a shaggy, wet dog. Her makeup was running down her face with red liquid, and the top of her custom-designed wedding dress was stained red by the wine.
Brianna's eyes were wide with disbelief and her mouth was open in shock; she couldn't believe that Adele just poured wine on her head!
Brianna's grandmother couldn't stand idly by any longer. She pushed through the crowd of onlookers, taking with her her grandson-in-law.
"You little jezebel," the elderly woman cursed at Adele. "After all that my granddaughter has done for you, you embarrass her like this on her wedding day?!"
"Are you okay?" Daniel asked Brianna as he removed his jacket and put it over her shoulders.
Brianna's lips trembled and she shook her head like an upset child before hugging Daniel. She sobbed quietly in his chest, her shoulders shaking.
"I'm gonna help her get cleaned up," Daniel informed Brianna's grandmother, before leaving the scene with her still sobbing in his arms.
"Are you happy now that you've ruined everything?" Brianna's grandmother continued to jeer Adele. Her tone changed as she expressed sadness. "Do you know how much Brianna has waited for this day? How could you do this to her?"
'Is she trying to make me feel guilty?' Adele thought.
Brianna's brother, Brandon shot Adele a nasty look before taking his grandmother into his embrace. "Don't waste your time, granny, heartless people don't feel guilt or remorse."
Adele only rolled her eyes in response. She and Brandon have a relationship history; he has had a grudge against her since high school after she turned down his marriage proposal.
After Brandon left with his grandmother, Adele was left standing in the middle of a crowd of people shooting hostility at her with their eyes, but she couldn't sense her mother's.
'Where is that old woman?' Adele wondered as she looked around, ignoring the lights of the cameras all around her and blocking out the nasty things people were loudly whispering about her.
She was about to make her way through the crowd when she was blocked by Brianna's two bridesmaids who had a large metal bowl of punch in their hands and smug smiles on their faces.
"Fuck," Adele cursed under her breath.
