"Hmph," Danzo snorted, letting the matter drop for now. "So, what do you suggest we do about the Uchiha situation now that Shisui has been almost entirely ostracized from the clan? How will we gather information on the Uchiha from here on out?"
"If no one is gathering intelligence, the Uchiha might plan a rebellion, and we wouldn't even know."
Danzo always exaggerated the threat of the Uchiha, making them seem as malevolent as possible. This kept the Third Hokage and other top leaders anxious, ensuring they would depend on him, Shimura Danzo.
"I'll handle this," the Third Hokage said after a moment of contemplation.
Danzo's provocation made the Third Hokage's face turn grim, as the Uchiha threat was significant. The memory of the Nine-Tails attack years ago still caused him pain. Regardless of whether he was suspected of sidelining Minato, Minato's death and the destruction caused by the Nine-Tails had brought immense suffering to Konoha, exacerbating their post-war struggles.
Furthermore, his wife, Biwako Sarutobi, had also died that night.
The Third Hokage conceded.
Danzo raised an eyebrow slightly, satisfied. This outcome was even smoother than he had anticipated.
"I will keep a close watch on Uchiha Kazuki. If an opportunity arises, I will capture him. Such an unruly and evil character cannot be allowed to roam freely."
Going after Kazuki would cause significant trouble. The Third Hokage initially wanted to stop Danzo, but then reconsidered. All the recent changes in the Uchiha clan were sparked by Kazuki.
Kazuki was like a catfish in a pond, stirring everything up and making all the fish and shrimp more active.
So, the Third Hokage abandoned his attempt to dissuade Danzo. He thought that controlling Kazuki might actually reduce a lot of trouble.
Meanwhile, back at the Uchiha compound, it was destined not to remain peaceful.
After finishing his work for the day, Kazuki was heading home to rest when he encountered two unexpected visitors.
Danzo was a man of action. After his discussion with the Third Hokage, he immediately sent people to find Kazuki.
Due to recent changes in the clan and the police force, Kazuki, as a team captain, often had to work late. Otherwise, he would have left earlier, but with Fugaku personally overseeing the police force, Kazuki had no chance to slack off.
Are they from the ANBU or Root?
ANBU had been monitoring him for a while, but they had never gotten this close or waited for him on his way home.
Ignoring his suspicions, Kazuki walked straight past the two without acknowledging them. Whether they were ANBU or Root didn't matter to him as long as they didn't dare to make a move here.
They were near the police headquarters. If a fight broke out, Kazuki could stall for time, and reinforcements from the police force would arrive quickly. Attacking an Uchiha here would certainly provoke the clan's wrath.
The Root ninja were surprised that Kazuki didn't speak first, expecting to intimidate him and then take him away. This tactic had worked well for them before. But Kazuki had no intention of playing along.
The Root operatives were stunned. When had an Uchiha dared to ignore their presence?
"Uchiha Kazuki," one of them called out as Kazuki was about to walk away, "Lord Danzo requests your presence. Please come with us."
Kazuki stopped and looked at them curiously. "Is this an invitation or an arrest?"
"What do you mean?" the Root ninja asked, frowning. They never bothered with invitations. They would usually find an excuse or use Danzo's name to lure someone to a secluded spot and then take them down.
As expected of Danzo, he couldn't wait any longer. Kazuki shook his head slightly, thinking that the old dog was still as impatient as ever.
"If it's an arrest, show me an arrest warrant from the Hokage's office. If it's an invitation, then I decline. I have no interest in meeting Danzo."
The Root ninja immediately tensed up, blocking Kazuki's path and placing their hands on their swords. "Lord Danzo requests your presence. Please come with us."
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Kazuki asked, showing no sign of fear. Instead, he seemed amused, as if watching two clowns perform.
Attacking an Uchiha near the police headquarters? Their audacity was astounding.
The Root ninja hadn't noticed the Uchiha shinobi gathering around them.
"I advise you—" one of the Root ninja started.
"Arrest them for attacking a police squad captain," Kazuki interrupted, waving to his gathered clan members. "These unknown individuals tried to assault me. You can take action now."
"What?" The Root ninja were stunned. They had come to arrest Kazuki, but now they were the ones being arrested?
This wasn't good. More Uchiha appeared, and it became clear that Kazuki was serious about having them detained.
Without waiting for the Root ninja to reveal their identities, the Uchiha, led by Uchiha Kiyama, swiftly subdued them.
"How dare you—" one of the Root ninja began to protest but was cut off by a cry of pain as they were overwhelmed.
Kiyama grabbed one in each hand, grinning. "Captain, what should we do with these two?"
"Lock them up and send them to prison in the morning. The charge, as I said, is attacking a police squad captain," Kazuki replied, turning to leave. He needed to get home and rest.
As for the mess left behind, he didn't need to worry about it.
And Danzo, waiting impatiently for his men to return?
Who cares?
"Lord Danzo requests your presence?" Kazuki scoffed internally. He wouldn't comply even if ANBU came with a request from the Hokage. If he were to go, he'd bring Fugaku, the clan leader, along with him.
