Serse had travelled far from the palace, dawn was just breaking when she heard it. A quiet but strained melody, the gift Serse had created herself. That meant that Sonnis's box had been opened. Serse rushed to the rest of the way to her village, but when she got there it was in a state of disaster. The villagers swarmed to her and bowed at her feet.
"Lady Serse, please help us." The entire village had been destroyed by the monsters. Most houses had gaping holes, the paths were scattered. Children cried and held onto adults. Very few people were left.
Serse asked after the couple she'd found in the forest and gifted the light to. But they had died in the night, all that was left of their family was a young boy, barely able to stay on his feet, he seemed to limp forward. His face had scratches on it, and a long cut trailed down his arms. Serse immediately felt a drew to him. She came forward and folded him into her arms to help him stay upright. He was crying too.
Serse felt helpless, she could not fight to protect the humans. She would need help. So she promised the villagers to return soon, and with her took the boy. Serse fled to Alora's house to pled for help in protecting the humans.
Alora was outside in her gardens tending to the crops. She was surprised to see Serse arrive, and even more mystified by the child she had in tow.
"Please help me sister. For the monsters are killing the innocents along with those who were guilty. They kill children along with parents, soon they will kill all my people. This boys parents were killed last night, and now he has no one except me." She said, her voice was breaking. "You love your daughter, help me protect those I care about."
Alora listened carefully.
"I will assist you sister." She said at last bowing her head. "But the little one, be careful of him with Onicent and Airabella."
Serse understood her warning.
"Will you bring your daughter with us?"
"No, it is not safe." Alora said.
The sisters returned to the village, and were greeted by the humans. They bowed to Alora, who treated them with kindness, but also a coolness. Together they began to help rebuild the homes, and in addition to that a short wall to protect the homes and crops. Alora had built something like this to help protect her own home, for the monsters had swarmed her as well. They showed the remaining men how to build the defences, and soon they had taken over. Alora also helped plant more crops for the villagers. Soon Alora could see why Serse cared about these humans, they were helpful and kind hearted people, not unlike Serse herself.
When they had finished the villagers built a small building in the centre of the village, inside they added a torch. This became the first shrine to a goddess or god. It was equally for Alora and Serse. Both of them felt a swell of energy when it was lit.
"Thank you my sister." Serse said, clasping Alora's hands.
Alora shook her head slightly with a smile, then she fixed her eyes on Serse's boy. "The child, take him to our mother, she will help."
Serse lead the boy to the void where her mother lived. He wasn't frightened by the underground, oddly he seemed curious. Serse held his hand protectively, as she lead him. When she reached the cave she knelt.
"Mother, help me. I love this boy, his parents were my friends. Please help me protect him."
Serse felt a surge of energy. Her boy started to glow, the glow was orange, but much more red than her own colour. When it cleared the boy looked like Serse, he had orange skin and hair, and bright glowing eyes.
He blinked, looking confused. Then he raised a hand and examined it. A smile broke out on his face.
Serse smiled, she knew her Mother had given her a son.
