Way off in the End Maiguh was sitting on his throne. Lanky black creatures moved all around him, they had flooded his home in increasingly large numbers. Each poured their memories out to Maiguh, he was filled with sorrow from their human lives. Many lives had been ended in a creepers blast, some of the creatures had been children. He chose to call the creatures Enderman. For they were humans that had come to the End.
Maiguh allowed the creatures to chatter their stories to him. They kept him company, even somewhat entertained. Some told him happy stories of their lives. He discovered something else, some enders had memories beyond their lives. They had wandered in the overworld for a time before being found by Dinetee. Maiguh searched through the memories to find glimpses of his daughter. She always seemed to have a calm expression, she lacked the bitterness she once showed, Maiguh was startled by how peaceful she seemed. He considered that the time in the overworld had done her good.
There was something else though in the occasional memory. A glimpse of one of his siblings here and there.
He watched Serse helping villagers with their houses. He watched Dauntice duel with Iyora and Alora over a village. He saw Ianin building a wall with two young men. He watched acts of kindness from his siblings as well as acts of cruelty.
He had then discovered the most useful thing of all. He was able to send his Enderman to the overworld for short spans of time. Using them he had kept watch on his siblings, though he knew not to create more work for Dinetee, less it be noticed. He listened to endless stories of what the Enderman had seen. A child had been born with a strange colouring, he spoke her name quietly feeling immense pity for her. More alarmingly Maiguh heard of Amos's attack on Neonee. The Enderman showed Maiguh two of Onicent's children carrying a scarred Neonee into the forest.
All this peeked Maiguh's interest. How would Onicent respond to the attack. He sent several of the enders to listen in for him. The first one told him of Airabella preventing the witness, a vote of seven, and Amos being guilty by vote. Second came the information about Epis and his vote, added in was the strange energy that seemed to come from a goddess whom the ender did not know. Third, the announcement of innocence. Maiguh grimaced at this, so his brother was the same as always.
Finally came an ender he did not expect to carry news. But he was immersed in a memory of shouting turned screaming turned silence. Maiguh picked out Airabella's voice as a scream sounded again. The ender witnessed the fight and saw Onicent scream at Airabella, but then upon the turn of his head, the ender was forced to flee. Next Onicent was seen leaving the castle, a crazed expression.
Maiguh put his head in his hands as he watched all this. But something stuck with him. Airabella had questioned Onicent's leadership. Perhaps was the tide changing, Maiguh remembered the words of his daughters.
"We curse you Onicent for spilling blood. Your brother the rightful leader shall brand you. Beware."
Spoken so long ago, they were the cause of his grief. But perhaps there was still hope. Maiguh sent more enders out to collect information. Meanwhile he had nothing to do but wait.
