'Riiiiinnnnngggg'. The school bell echoed through the halls, the other students filling them. I looked from side to side, watching everyone's little moves. Their fingers fidgeting. The laughing among their little cliques. Then, I saw Bill striding towards me from behind, I instantly knew what was coming. I braced myself as he took me by the shoulders and pinned me against the wall.
"Where is the money Dyllans?" He demanded.
"Sorry Bill, I couldn't get en-" I tried to say, but he slapped me across the face with immense force.
"I said where is the money," he questioned, but he said it like it was a command. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a couple bucks I was going to use for lunch, but I guess I could go without it for the third week in a row. I slapped it in his hand, and I could tell he was satisfied now.
"Oh, and one more thing," he turned to me, clicking and tapping the watch on his wrist. I was already prepared for what was coming. He tapped one final time and quickly forced his hands out. From his hands spewed water at speeds as fast as a car. The best I could do was put my hands up and try and block the attack, but that wasn't going to be enough.
The water impacted on my forearms so bad that when I got up, I winced when I saw that in various areas it was a bruised purple. My clothes were now sopping wet, but the effects didn't last long due to Bill's watch ability. I shrugged the incident off as usual and headed to my next class.
'Riiiiinnnngggg' The tardy bell rang halfway to my next class. I wasn't upset at all. I kept walking at the same pace as I did before the bell rang. I knew I was already tardy, so there was no reason to try and make a sprint for History.
I plopped down in my seat, not even bothering to go to Detention, which was usually the punishment if you were late. Today was learning about the battle of Newbanberg, which was on the planet Paragoun. Man, I would go to Paragoun any day if I had the money. Which is why I was going to join the U.S. Space Academy.
13 years ago, after almost a century of fighting, Earth won a war against an alien species known simply as Miliguaons. I happened to be two at the time, but I couldn't remember. I just remember my dad leaving to fight. He never returned.
Anyways, during the war, the Miliguaons kept advancing their technology, and they knew we couldn't keep up. We knew it too. But you got to fight fire with fire. And that fire was discovered by Dr. William P. Neals, the inventor of the chasm watch. The Chasm Watch was a device that brought out one's fighting ability into a physical form. Back then, he made multiple copies, which were a huge success in helping our forces defeat the aliens.
But the purpose of the watch was to originally restore the earth's atmosphere, which global warming deteriorated about 56% of the atmosphere. People who couldn't afford to go to other planets had to stay on the earth and wear oxygen masks. Dr. Neals wanted to increase the speed of adding oxygen to the atmosphere, but ended up discovering that the watches could bring out the physical power of you spirit and soul.
Usually, History class was boring, but today got my attention. We talked about the first manifestation of powers, the tactics used to destroy the Miliguaons weapons system, and other cool stuff. But at the end of the day, I still missed every class I went to. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get there on time because of two reasons: either one, I was stripped of money, or two, where I couldn't get to class because the halls were overflowing with students.
As I was grabbing my bike, Brayden came over to me.
"Got any chips friend?" He asked in a tone that wanted to murder.
"Sorry bro, but I have a don-"
"Give it. I'm hungry, and you know what happens if I'm not fed."
I kindly handed over the donut that I earned today in math class. It was no big deal, but I really was starting to get tired of this crap.
"Have a safe ride home," he laughed as he used his watch to super speed back. Man, do I wish I had a watch. I hopped back on my bike and started to ride home.
I was deep in my thoughts, thinking about what I was going to do with my life. I wanted to become a voice actor, but I felt like my voice was too weak. After a while, I finally decided that I was going to stick to the plan of joining the space force. It offered free classes and I could use the training. They even gave a basic watch.
As I was deep in these thoughts, I wasn't quick to notice my surroundings. In the middle of the sidewalk, a black cat stopped about ten feet in front of my bike. It was nearly too late when I noticed the cat. The consequences of slamming the brakes were painful. I flipped forward over the bike, skidding at least 3 yards before coming to a stop. I opened my eyes to see my knee was severely scraped, but everything else was fine.
I stood up, knowing I was fine, until I noticed something shiny where I landed. It was a platinum silver colour, with 3 button-like things on the perimeter of it. A round object. My curiosity began to grow and finally decided to pick up what seemed to be a watch.
"A watch? But why would someone just drop a watch and leave it here? Do they not know how valuable these things are?" I wondered to myself.
