If Larkin wasn't the one who said that, the woman wouldn't believe it. She didn't know why he would say such a thing at this moment, but she was pretty sure that it had something to do with what he was about the experience later when they sleep. He probably figured it out.

Every time they sleep next to each other these days, he would always dream about her—the woman who had destroyed his life and had taken away the lights in his very dark world. If it was just him alone, he would have forgotten all those repressed memories he had of her. There was nothing to feel towards that abomination but pure hatred and insurmountable loathing.

However, there he was every time. Moreover, in all of those dreams, it seemed that something was wrong—based on how Larkin reacted to the image of Sarafina now. There was no way that he wouldn't know what Artie was doing. There was simply no way he wouldn't suspect her as a culprit.
