Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Do Your Job Properly

Feeling my head buzzing, I decided to just ignore the sensation and continue walking forward.

Sylph was also walking beside me with a puzzled expression, as if she were still thinking about the previous matter.

Suddenly, she raised her head with a face as if she had just remembered something.

"Well, I'm not sure about this, but from time to time, the people around me would call me Princess."

"Huh?"

My eyes twitched as I felt my intelligence drop by another level.

"Then doesn't that just make you a Princess? I'd consider a position of that level befitting the need of bodyguards."

"That's the thing, though. The fairy race runs on a council system. We don't have royalties and monarchy like the other kingdoms."

"Hm... I guess that would be weird then."

"Do you have any idea why they would call you that?"

"...Not a clue." Sylph tilted her head as she pursed her lips.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Lagaru Lagaru

Hi, author here!

I'm here to talk about this chapter that may have felt like it came out of nowhere. I mean, suddenly delving into what has essentially been a side character's, not even a supporting character's, story like this might seem a bit random, especially when I've barely done anything to talk about their background, personality, or reasons before this.

However, after much consideration, I just happened to realize a simple fact: I messed up.

As you know, this is my first novel, so I've been experimenting a lot here and there, taking inspiration and influence from various other authors and works and have come to realize something—I've been completely neglecting writing about the supporting characters of the story.

This has led to the story being extremely weak in the character development department besides the main character, Lake.

In my head, I've just been writing about Lake, and only Lake, while keeping the stuff happening with the other characters in scenes without Lake as information in the back of my mind, without actually sharing it with you, the readers. This could end up making your reading experience feel like you're missing a piece of the puzzle, which in reality, you really were.

So although this might be really late, and a lot of the characters might feel like they're coming out of nowhere, I'm going to start writing a bit more about the other characters, so expect more chapters like this in the future.

I'll try to integrate it into the story as much as possible in a way that won't affect the narrative and pacing, but again, because of how badly I messed up in this department, it might come off as really jarring, so please bear with it.

If you have any advice on this matter and would like to share, leave a comment in the comment section. I'll be sure to check it out.
