Chapter 19: Close Call

You're only a few inches away from his lips. You could easily just lean in and kiss his gorgeous lips. You feel the undeniable magnetism between you and an unspeakable force is drawing you in. You close your eyes for just a second and take in his musky scent and you then take a deep breath. You open your eyes and you see what stands before you. His chocolate brown eyes are staring into your soul and everything inside you want to become his. You gather every last resource of restraint that you have left and pull away from him.

"Are you okay, Nick?"

"Uhm…so sorry for that, let me try and stand again"

He tries to stand on his feet and he leans heavily on you. His face is still white as snow and you slowly make your way to the camp. Nick looks at you and then stands still for a moment.

"We have to keep going, we need to get you to the hospital"

"Yeah, I know, I just wanted to thank you, so thank you…"

You feel tears threatening behind your eyes. You're the one that's supposed to thank him for saving you.

"God…Nick, I wanted to thank you. Please don't thank me, this is the very least I can do for saving my life. Please let's get you to the hospital, you're not out of the woods yet and I don't want something to happen to you"

NICK'S POINT OF VIEW

He stares into your eyes and swears he sees tears. He's still in awe that you care so much for him. He knows that he's not completely himself at the moment but he's very clear on what he needs to do. He needs to break up with Helena because he wants you in his life. You're worth waiting for, but in the meantime, he knows that he doesn't want to be with Helena. He wants to be with you.

"I might have helped you with that guy but you're still here and helping me, so I'm the one that needs to thank you…"

Suddenly it feels like all the energy is drowned from his body. He feels very weak and he struggles to speak.

KIM'S POINT OF VIEW

You look at Nick and suddenly you see his face changing. He looks at you, tilting his head.

"Who are you? Where am I?"

You know now that Nick is starting to go into hemorrhagic shock. You grab him around his waist and start to pull him towards camp. You're not too far and you give him your all to him there as soon as possible. You only now realize how big and strong he is. He's just a ton of pure muscle. You finally reach the tent and you shout out loud.

"Please help!! It's Nick!!"

Helena comes running out and grabs Nick on the other side. All you know is that you need Nick to be okay and it doesn't matter if it is Helena that gets him here, as long as she can help him.

"What happened??" Concern plays on Helena's face.

By now there are a few people including some of Nick's team around you. Everyone is helping to get him on the bed.

"Some guy tried to attack me just outside the camp and Nick defended me by jumping him but then the attacker drove a knife into his upper leg. He lost a lot of blood and he needs to get a transfusion asap"

Helena stands in shock and looks at Nick laying on the bed, helpless and weak.

"Helena!!" You shake her by the shoulders. "Helena, where's Nick's blood??"

Helena snaps out of it and looks you in the eyes. "We don't have it, we lost it on the ship. We still wanted to draw some but never got around to it…"

"Okay, what's his blood type?"

"I….I…." Helena just stares at Nick laying on the bed with his eyes closed. "Helena!! What's his blood type??" You shake her again.

"Oh, it's AB negative...Oh god, we should've done it…it's the rarest blood. Why didn't we just do it?"

"Don't blame yourself, please. Now help me quick"

You start to get out the blood transfusion kit and start moving to the bed next to Nick. Helena walks to you.

"What are you doing?"

"Please draw from my blood, I'm AB negative" Helena gets the biggest smile on her face and hugs you. You don't mind the hug but you have bigger things on your mind right now. You need to make sure Nick feels better.

"Okay, okay. Now please, put in the transfusion"

You move your bed closer to Nick's and get on the bed. Helena busies herself to put a needle into his arm and then yours. Just then Nick has a moment of clarity.

"What's wrong with you Kim?"

You turn your head to Nick, glad to see his eyes open. You smile at him, making sure Helena doesn't see you.

"She's fine, baby. We're doing a blood transfusion. She's got the same blood as you, so she offered to give her blood to you"

Then Nick's head falls on his pillow and he slips into unconsciousness. You start to panic and wish Helena would hurry up and get your blood into his body. You see her shake as she put the needle into your arm. You grab hold of her hand.

"Helena, you can do this. Nick is okay but you have to not see him as your boyfriend now, you should see him as a patient. He needs your help as a patient and you need to be his doctor now. I can't do this and Nita isn't here. So, you need to be the one to help him. Can you do it?"

She swallows hard and you see her moving into doctor mode. "Yes, yes I can"

You see her straighten up and start to work efficiently. Finally, you feel that there could be a chance that Nick could be okay. You need him to be okay, you need him…
