Synopsis

Apocalypse befell, and roommates performed a skyward ritual.
As the fog descended, the Book of Blood Spirit appeared in the hands of all survivors, and only those with a Contract monster could survive.
Su Han directed his gaze to the neighbor who had already mutated and twisted, silently pulling out a gleaming fruit knife...
Grotesque meat corpses, giant spiders with gaping mouths, eyeballs enveloping the city, one-eyed sharp-toothed hand monsters...
Civilization fell, cities shattered, and all humans became meat for the monsters. There was only one way to survive:
Use monsters to fight monsters.

I was in the mood for something apocalyptic and I got apocalyptic. This was better than I expected. You never truly know the origins of a zombie outbreak but you know how flesh corpses and monsters came to be in this story. Su Han (MC) forms a team with Yan Meiyu, Gan Xinglei and Zhu Xiong to survive the sudden apocalypse. There is face-slapping, action, some comedy, stupidity and drama. Romance? No clue. The free chapters didn't have any aside from some guy who stocked up on condoms and Viagra. Definitely continuing because I want to know if the world finds a new normal.

So far so good (chapter 149) . OP MC. A lot of monsters. No harem (yet) (hopefully none). Smart and cautious MC. Not so many idiotic antagonist. Great premise and world building.

This definitely piqued my interest as the settings of this are a bit different than the normal end of times genre. It's like a mix and match of end of times and contracting monsters. Definitely a unique perspective, so it's a must-read to me. Basically, the settings are at the end of times, as I said. But instead of elemental and physical powers, you can contract a monster. Who are these monsters? Could be your friend, family, or even pets if they didn't survive the evolution. To be able to contract, you must be the one who killed the monster. Or else you won't be able to contract it. It has levels, and at every level, you get a new contract slot for a new monster. You'll face a challenge to get that spot for your next monster. A sacrifice. Interesting, isn't it? The protagonist is also a stable character. He's not a holy father but a calm and well thought out character. He understands that what matters the most is his strength. With it, he will be able to speak within the group and have more use of his special ability. I would say that particular ability is OP, but it has its own rules and limitations. He will also expand his group and area as he gradually builds his strength. It's addicting to see how they've come now. The group also doesn't drag him down. Instead, they pushed themselves to their limits and works to contribute. They put the protagonist at the center as they know he's the center of their place. Without him, they won't have what they have now. The exploration of why this happened is also there, albeit slowly since this is the main plot. It's fun to see that there's progress every now and then. Overall, I love this, and I'll continue reading this until the end possible.

Really stupid execution. Nothing I hate more than chinese characters being chinese with all the young master tropes and being in a modern setting

This novel, as far as an apocalypse webnovel goes, is up there. The worldbuilding and monsters are the main highlights, especially with the (sort of) lovecraftian horrors that roam and evolve among the fog. Everything in this world has its distinct flavour and the author sticks to it. As for pacing, dialogue and character interactions its a Chinese translation so its about what I expected. But other than that Its a good read.

Read what was free. MC isn’t a sociopath but he isn’t the wannabe hero either. Grammar can use some touch ups as well as the inconsistency in the names used for the envoys. Updates seem stable. The MC isn’t very well described nor anyone else as well. Just basic height and build if that. World background is a zero at the moment. We don’t know how big the city is where in his world they are or any significant structure or features nearby. Also MC hasn’t tried to expirment with his group fusing materials really either. Conversatuons are off putting for me. They seem very rigid and formal even in situations where you would speak casually but that could be a cultural barrier. Wish the story luck but not for me
