Chapter 11: 11

In a desolate desert, a man slowly wandered through the seemingly perpetual sand dunes. These deserts were filled with countless dangers, which the man had faced numerous times. He looked up into the starry night, and wondered when this seemingly infinite siege of weird creatures would end. Just as he was about to take a rest, he was once again assaulted by another monster. He inwardly sighed before a couple futuristic looking guns appeared out of thin air and began firing lasers at an alarming rate, within seconds the monster was completely obliterated.

"I wonder how the brat and darling are doing these days." He cracked his knuckles before continuing walking. "The food I brought along is also almost deplete, and God, I really miss Hideaki's food.."

Suddenly, an enormous amount of monsters began rushing into his direction. "Oh boy." He murmured under his breath before summoning a large quantity of futuristic looking guns. He gave the signal and they began to fire simultaneously.

A myriad of colourful laser beams were continuously fired towards the monsters. A huge number of them were already dead, but none of the monsters showed even a bit of remorse, and continued running towards Zen.

He clicked his tongue before a gigantic gun appeared above him. It seemed to charge up as a blue light began forming inside the huge barrel, and suddenly a gigantic beam of light soared out of the barrel.

The beam of light was rather blinding and before the monsters knew it, the beam had already made impact with the ground, causing a gigantic explosion to form. Directly after a huge mushroom cloud rose into the air. Sand and dust blew into every direction and nearly all the monsters had been annihilated.

Zen heaved a sigh, and quickly massacred the remaining monsters. Abruptly, Zen's gaze fell upon a big mountain sticking out in the distance. "Since when was that there?" He confusedly mumbled, he activated his gun boots and leapt through the air. It didn't take long before the mountain became more visible. The sand biome had weirdly turned into a snow biome. He landed at the edge of the sand biome and suspiciously looked around.

A snow biome next to a sand one, was rather unbelievable as they oppose each other completely. Zen didn't see any signs of it being a trap though and slowly tread forward with caution.

The further he went, the colder it got. There were no signs of any living creature so far and the trees seemed to have withered. He kept a large sum of guns around him, serving as both defence and offense. He had a handgun in his hand. The gun had a weird design, and it projected a green hologram. The hologram was in fact a radar. It was supposed to detect any form of life, but it picked up absolutely nothing. Zen's suspicion grew bigger and his guard raised even more.

Suddenly, a weird ice sculpture appeared within his view. The ice was transparent and within it, a weird creature was encased within it. The moment he laid his eyes on this one sculpture, more and more seemed to appear out of nowhere. All in different shapes and sizes.

"So that's why the radar didn't pick up anything. All the animals are dead…"

---

The ground once again shook heavily and loud noises were heard all over the forest. Hisato and Amera had begun seeking the cause, but to no avail. They kept walking, and encountered several monsters and animals alike. Surprisingly, the monsters didn't even bat an eye, and continued running. It truly was a weird situation.

They had covered a big distance already and were rather far away from the cave. The further they went, the less monsters and animals they encountered. It wasn't just that, there were less trees and all the green had slowly begun to disappear. Right now, they weren't in a forest. They had entered a desert.

But, that wasn't the only noteworthy thing. In front of them, a rather particular view appeared.

It was a horde of gigantic rhinoceros beetles. Just like the other animals, they too seemed to flee. They were most likely the cause of the quakes, although the question remained, why were they fleeing?

Hisato looked up to Amera and asked, "Do we have to investigate this?" He had a pained expression.

"Of course, maybe it's something dangerous, and if we know what it is, then we can determine if it's a real threat or not." A small ugh could be heard from him. Amera just chuckled and began walking into the direction the beetles came from, and so they entered the desert in search for the problem.

They had gotten closer to the rhinoceros beetles. They truly were gigantic. Their legs were the size of the trees within the forest and their body was even bigger and spanned at least 100 metres wide. When they took a step, the ground trembled and they would leave behind small craters in the form of their tarsal claws.

Even though most monsters had fled, there were still some who didn't, and for whatever reason they had, they decided it was a smart idea to attack the beetles. It only resulted in them being crushed by them. Some of the monsters also attacked Hisato and Amera, although there weren't many and they were easily dealt with.

They were about to take a break when she saw something rather particular.

It was a group, which consisted of monsters of the same species. They were attacking a lone rhinoceros.

As they were rather close to them, Hisato closely observed them.

The monsters were wolf-like animals, They were completely jet black, they had four scrawny looking legs, yet they moved as quick as lightning, instead of paws, they seemed to have hooves. The monsters had almost no facial features, the only thing they had was a mouth which was filled with sharp teeth. They gave off black mist-like particles and each time their hooves touched the ground, black mist rippled from them, spreading in each direction. With so many of them, this caused the ground to be covered in the mist.

The mist seemed to cause a vertigo-like effect since the rhinoceros' steps began to look disoriented and he almost fell over. Although that was mainly because the monsters were assaulting it's legs, causing it to falter.

Two of the monsters somehow managed to get on the beetle's back, and began to attack it from there. The beetle attempted to shake them off, but was unsuccessful. Suddenly, a loud crack could be heard and the beetle began to crash upon the surface.

The impact caused the ground to heavily trample and large clouds of dust spread into every direction. The monsters let out a false sounding howl, before they began to dig into its armor in an attempt to break it.

As they were observing these monsters, Amera seemed to be quite intrigued. She hadn't expected monsters to have such 'precise' teamwork, and thus she was a little interested in it, and wanted to continue observing them.

But to her surprise, Hisato urged them to leave. "That's not like you, now is it? Normally I am the one urging to leave."

"I want to finish this quickly so I can sleep again." A bland answer, although she had expected it to some extent..

"Alright, let's move on." Amera said as she stood up and wiped the sand off her clothes.

"I truly wonder what caused all of this."
