“Hello, Margaret, wonderful to see you this morning. I am sorry you had to come all this way to simply return home, but from this moment forward, you are fired. Please pack up your belongings” Zoe said, as she arrived at the office and put her purse and a stack of documents down onto her chair.

Margaret stood staring at Zoe, holding a stack of papers. As Zoe mouthed the words, Margaret smiled.

“Excuse me? You cannot fire me. You don’t have the authority. Plus, Dylan would never let me go. I am much too valuable to him” Margaret said, continuing to stand still, unmoving, waiting for Zoe’s response.

“Actually Margaret, as of today I am the new acting CEO of this firm. I am your superior. In addition, you are no longer valuable to anyone here” Zoe said, looking at Margaret.

Margaret took a few steps back. She appeared to be in shock.
