The moment his wife was lying on the bed and expectantly looking up at her husband, Desmond crawled into bed and climbed over her, only speaking when she was between his arms and their legs were intertwined. 

"Are you sure?" he asked her. "I will never forgive myself if you're forcing yourself to do this for my sake. Please promise me that you're feeling better." 

"All I am is tired now," she admitted. "I want you to help me go to sleep. You know just how to do that." 

She smiled at him sweetly and, since his eye had gotten used to the darkness, he could see her expression well.
