Chapter 6: Instantly Becomes the Matter of Conversation
The teacher entered the class and was greeted by the class president who asked to give greetings. "Stand up! Give respect!"
"Good morning, Mrs. Detta." All the students said in unison.
"Good morning students too. Today I will introduce a new student who will start attending school with you. Please come forward, Reina and introduce yourselves to the classmates."
Reina stood up and came to the front of the class. The girl was beside Detta, then introduced herself properly. "Good morning everyone, my name is Reina Smith from Lorders High School in the City of Detroit. Nice to meet you and I hope we can be good friends in this school."
"Boy, Reina is from a faraway city."
"Right, why did Reina transfer in the middle of the semester like this?"
"Did Reina cause trouble at school before?"
The whispers of the students were clearly heard in the ears of Detta and Reina who were still standing in front of the class. Detta also firmly ordered the students to be quiet. "Shut up everyone! Please calm! Reina moved here because she lived with her aunt. Reina's cousin also attended school here named Sebastian Carroll in the final grade. You guys have to be nice with Reina, got it?"
"Okay, Miss Detta!" exclaimed the students looking forced.
Reina sat back in the chair after being invited by her teacher. Reina knew that transfer students would have a hard time especially in the middle of a semester like this. It is not only a matter of adjusting to the school and the lessons in the classroom, but also adjusting to the students and students in the class. Not to mention about Sebastian, who turns out to be famous at school, surely many girls will not like Reina who was walking with Sebastian. Maybe people will get the wrong idea and think Reina has a special relationship with Sebastian even though they are only cousins.
Reina also felt bad because Lee Jackie moved seats beside Reina. This clearly made the girl feel even more worried about getting bad treatment from other students. "Huh, why do I have to go through all this on the first day of changing schools?" Reina complained while scribbling on the books on her desk.
"Don't worry, everything will be fine. You just need to get used to being in these classes and schools. I will help you whenever you need help." Lee said this in a whisper so that the teacher wouldn't hear the conversation of those sitting in the front row.
Reina just smiled at Lee and didn't answer at all because she knew the other girls were staring at them with disapproving looks as if they wanted to just eat Reina. In a position like this Reina like everything went wrong. Anything that is done will definitely be considered guilty by other girls who like Lee and Sebastian.
After finishing the first to fifth lessons, finally the recess bell sounded loudly. All the students came out of the classroom to rest but Reina chose to stay in the classroom. Even though the girl did not bring food or drink at all. But it feels like even Reina can't get out of class because she is afraid of the girls who have been staring at Reina with hatred since walking with Sebastian.
"You brought lunch, didn't you?" Lee asked Reina.
Reina replied by shaking her head for fear that talking too much would only lead to more trouble. Unexpectedly, Lee also invited Reina out of class. "If you bring lunch, let's go to the canteen together."
Reina was forced to answer because she didn't want to go out of class with Lee. "No, thank you. I'm better in class."
"Why? Do you want to be a new student here?"
"No, I just want to be in class to feel comfortable."
"Okay then, I'll go to the cafeteria for a bit." Lee left Reina who was still in the classroom to head to the cafeteria. It turned out that the man bought food and drinks to take back to class and eat with Reina.
Reina didn't expect that after leaving the class several other girls approached Reina. "Hey, you new student! Don't act too much in this class. You won't survive if you approach Lee even though you're Sebastian's cousin!"
"Yes that's right! Don't let all the girls here get mad at you for being greedy for being close to Sebastian and Lee at the same time."
"Just watch out if your behavior is flirtatious and also makes Lee sympathize with you, I won't stay silent!"
Reina chose to remain silent and did not answer at all the threatening sentences hurled by the girls who surrounded her at this time. Reina knows whether to answer or not, everything will be a problem because from the start the girls were jealous of Lee's closeness, who moved seats with Reina. This is very unfavorable for a transfer girl in the middle of the semester.
Just then Sebastian entered the classroom and pounded the blackboard until the girls were shocked and ran away leaving Reina. Sebastian looks displeased with the girls' treatment of Reina at this time. It was as if this Reina was being bullied and also being treated badly in class.
"As expected it would be like this. Come on out of class, I'll take you somewhere else." Sebastian pulled Reina's hand even though she didn't want to, she couldn't refuse.
Sebastian took Reina to the back of the school building. There is a small garden and it looks like there are seats that can be used. Sebastian invited Reina to sit there. "You'll definitely get used to such annoyances but for now I can't let them do anything bad to you."
"Why do you act like you care about me when you don't?! You are the same as Aunt Shelena!" Reina was annoyed that all this would not find a way out. Girls in other grade classes would definitely misunderstand even more if they saw Reina go with Sebastian during recess.
"I care about you because I know your parents are missing. I heard everything your parents' lawyers said to my mother."
Reina was silent when Sebastian said a word that is missing not dead. It means that there is still hope about Reina's parents who disappeared and possibly still alive somewhere. Reina wanted to cry but it was impossible especially at school. The students will only corner and also make Reina suffer even more if she looks weak.
Sebastian looked at Reina. "I know it won't be easy but I will try my best to protect you."
Sebastian took out food and drinks from his bag. It turned out that the man had gone to the canteen earlier to buy food and drinks so that they could be eaten together behind the school building. Sebastian had thought that this would happen to Reina because Reina looks beautiful and must be considered a tough rival for the girls at school.
