Chapter 2: Gnoll

"Bloody hell... that fucker wants me to kill one of these bastards on my first day here?"

He moved the puppet to the side as he hid behind a tree.

"When in Rome, I guess"

He peeked through one side of the tree while controlling his puppet, forcing the Pawn to jump towards the creature and whack it with the wooden stick.

The monster barely felt the blunt force coming from the club. It laughed and swatted the puppet to the side, causing him to switch from normal threads to mana created ones.

He now has less time to deal with the creature.

Beforehand controlling the puppet with normal strings, costed around 1 mana per second. Which would normally give him 10 minutes, but the mana threads upped that to 2. Meaning that he only has 5 minutes to damage it as much as possible.

The Gnoll rushed at the puppet, swiping at it. The puppet dropped it's weapons and went in for a flying armbar.

A loud cracking sound could be heard as the right arm of the tall figure was contorted onto the opposite direction.

Killing it with the puppet alone is impossible, so he opted to try and cripple some of the limbs instead.

The dog-faced monstrosity howled in pain as he swatted the puppet away, taking off a chunk from its back.

He pulled the puppet away and made it pick its weapons backup.

While the club barely did any damage before he had a rough plan on how to use the puppet for the remaining 4 minutes.

The swipes and bites coming from the Gnoll were easily avoidable now. He led the monster to an open area. He then forced the puppet to drop the club once more, causing the monster to move back. Afraid of another assault on its arm, fearing the threat in front of it.

Only for the puppet to aim for the head.

The legs latched onto the monsters head and the wooden fists were aimed at the eye. The Gnoll wiggled wildly, obviously in pain as it closed it's eyes.

While controlling his puppet he ran to where the club would be, slowly but surely the monster pulled at his puppet. Overpowering it.

With one last move he took out both of its eyes before the Gnoll could do anything more.

He picked up the club as the puppet was sent flying to a tree.

Whack. A blow to the jaw.

A claw aimed at his direction, but the depth perception of the Gnoll has been screwed over due to the loss of its eyes.

Whack. Straight to the broken arm, causing the monster to yelp in pain.

It would take a while, but the Gnoll soon died due to multiple hits on the head.

He dragged the entire body into his inventory while also shoving the broken pieces of the pawn puppet onto his inventory.

He carried the wooden club with him while he ventured back. Ready for any goblins or other monsters that may come.

He reached the town entrance once more and waved hello to the guards.

"Had a good hunt lad? You seem cheery"

"Something like that"

He walked up to the clerk, with a bright smile on his face as he dragged a whole dead corpse out onto the floor of the mercenary's tavern.

"Hahahaha I said it as a joke but you actually did it. Here's 10 silver coins for your troubles."

He then dragged out the flattened corpse of a goblin.

"One of those costs about 3 copper, for goblins just bring the right ear next time. For Gnolls it's the head. But good work kid."

He thanked the old man before heading for the blacksmith. Eager to repair his puppet or get a new one, depends on the budget.

From what he could gather, 100 copper is equivalent to a silver coin while 100 silver is equal to a golden coin. Almost all of the weapons at the shop cost somewhere between 5 to 20 pieces of silver.

The shopkeep and main blacksmith appears to be a man in his early 30s. Bald with a trimmed beard.

"I'd like to inquire about some repairs"

"Sure lad, just show me the piece"

The pawn puppet from before appears to be broken, the limbs have been torn off and the back seems unrepairable.

"Well I can't say that I can't fix it, but wouldn't you rather buy a new one? I have a few on that aisle right there. This is an old prototype of Geppeto's work. You should go for the marketed version. Here follow me."

They went to a small section at the right side of the shop.
