Chapter 214: The high council, part 1

The Royal Tower-Palace was a place both grander and more subdued than the late Duke Belpaese's tower. It has puzzling architecture with several staircases and twisting hallways. Each room was furnished with furniture and decorations from expensive materials made by a master's hand, and powerful magic hummed everywhere.

Cael recalled that most of the enchantments on the Royal Tower-Palace were made by the king Poe the First, or based on his instructions. Since those enchantments survived even a direct attack from a Starspawn, Cael could only marvel at the dead king's skill.

The guard brought Cael, Ginevra and Mimi to a door in the middle of the tower and whispered a brief message to whoever was inside. A small spell carried this message through the air—a convenient way to pass words to someone in a nearby room.

A moment later, a ghostly voice brought by a similar spell sounded in the hallway. "Let them in and go back to your post."
