Chapter 66: Chapter 65: Catching a Rat

Inside the Grand Gruen Volcano. Freid Bagwa, the general of the demon army was facing the trials of Gruen Volcano riding on his trusty companion Uranos, a former unique white wyvern, now a white dragon.

He watches from on top of his dragon, as the crowd of 4 to 5 meters dragons rain down the laser beam-like breath attacks to finish the trial.

"Finally, I have completed another trial from my God, thus I shall gain a new blessing, and with it, I shall eliminate my god's enemies," Freid said in a worshipping tone.

Right then Freid was contacted by <Telepathy> [What is it?] he asked.

[My lord, we have a problem. Some Gold-rank adventures suddenly came and killed the purple slime, interrupting the collapse of Ankaji.]

Freid listening to the news narrowed his eyes, [Give me a report of the event.]

[Understood.]

Freid was informed that a group of humans, led by a white-haired individual, used purification magic to force the slime out of the reservoir. Following this, a girl, suspected to be a dragon man, used a breath attack to eliminate the slime.

"..."

"..."

Freid frowned hearing that a dragon man the supposed heretic race, who was thought to be extinct was still alive. [Did some of the dragon men somehow survive the purge?] he thought to himself.

[Is that all] Freid asked the spy.

[My lord, before I made this call. I saw the gold adventurers head towards the Grand Gruen Volcano, most likely in search of the cure 'Stillstone'.]

[I see, is that all…] Freid asked.

[Yes, my lord.] the spy answered.

[All right, you should head back to the frontline castle and prepare for the upcoming war. I will deal with these nuisances myself.]

With that, the spy ceased the telepathy and stood up. The spy was currently in an inn, spying on Ankaji by using small slime monsters that he had spread throughout the Dukedom. Unlike the large purple slime, these slimes didn't have poison. Instead, they were extremely adept at hiding their presence and shapeshifting. They also had the mutated ability to share their senses, making them perfect for spying.

Afterwards, the spy packed some local items in his bag to blend in and left the inn heading towards the exit. If you're wondering how he's able to walk so openly, it's because of slime. He used the slime's ability to shapeshift and create a slime mask to change his appearance, and with an artefact that can hide his demon magic signature, no one can sense that he is a demon.

The spy without attracting any attention exited Ankaji, slowly walking away.

"..."

After making a proper distance and making sure no one following him. He sent a signal and called out to the slimes spread out through Ankaji.

The spy waited for about 2 hours for the slimes to gather beside him.

"You have done a great job," the spy caressed the small slime.

"Now merge into one," he ordered. The slimes wiggled for a moment and then started to merge. Soon instead of multiple small slimes there was a big metallic grey colour slime the same size as the purple slime.

The demon then pulled out a red-coloured crystal engraved with teleportation magic. He remembered lord Freid said breaking it would send him and anyone with him to the castle. He then used mana to strengthen his hand and was about to crush the crystal.

But before he knew it, his hand, including the crystal, disappeared. The pain came suddenly, and then, feeling the loss of an arm, panic followed.

"Ahh!" he screamed, then grabbed his arm, using some of his mana to stop the bleeding. Feeling the two presences suddenly appearing behind him, he looked back.

The demon looked back and grimaced, seeing the same man and woman who had foiled their plans standing near a puddle of metallic grey substance, his slime.

"Hey there, how's life treating yah? Looks like it's been rough. I guess you need a hand?" the man said sarcastically.

Hearing the sarcastic tone coming from the masked man, the demon gritted his teeth and clenched his missing arm. His mind spun to find a way out of this place.

[What should I do…] Sweat started to appear on his forehead.

[I should inform lord Freid] thinking that he used <Telepathy> to inform him, but failed at it.

"..."

Rihito, sensing the demon trying to contact someone shook his head.

"Master, do you want me to end him?" Tohru, who had been silent until now, asked.

"Not yet, not till we get some answers."

Rihito then looked at the demon, "It is futile, I have already made sure no one without my permission can use telepathy here. So, you can stop now."

The demon's face turned ugly upon hearing that, [Damn it, Telepathy is not connecting.]

The demon looked at the person responsible and knew he had no chance against him. The only reason he was still alive was that the person wanted something from him, probably information. For a moment, the demon thought about pretending to be a normal human civilian but decided to scrap that idea. By the looks of things, he guessed the person already knew about his identity.

[I guess this is where I die.] The demon determined to not spill any information prepared himself. Just then he got an idea. If he is going to die anyway why not use that? For that, he needs to buy some time, about 30 seconds.

The demon then secretly started to gather magic near his heart. Unknown to the demon, the masked man had already sensed the slight disturbance in mana and now gathering mana inside his body.

"You, what do you want," the demon asked acting cowardly.

25 seconds

Rihito saw the demon acting and decided to play along, "Tell me, what was your plan for Ankaji."

20 seconds

"If I tell you the truth, will you spare me," the demon acts as if he found a lifeline.

Tohru sees through the act and tries to warn Rihito. But before she could, a telepathic message from Rihito stopped her.

[It's all right Tohru, I know he is acting. Just watch.]

15 seconds

"That will depend on if you are telling us the truth or not," Rihito responded, observing the mass of mana gathering near the demon's heart.

[This is fascinating, this demon is making a mana core, an unstable one but still it's a mana core.] Rihito seeing this got reminded of something. [What was it?] Using <Super Human Speed> he pondered and finally remembered. [I remember, this mana core is similar to one from that story 'The Beginning after the End'.]

Rihito's eyes sparkled as he observed the demon. Using <Archmage>, he thoroughly analysed the mana core and identified the flaws that made it unstable. Now knowing what caused the instability, he could create his own mana core. However, he realized he didn't need it, as <Archmage> was superior in every way. Instead, he decided to teach this knowledge to Shea, Shizuku, and others, which would enhance their battle prowess.

10 seconds

"Fine," the demon drenched in sweat spoke.

[Just a few more seconds, I need to hold on for a few more seconds.] He put his whole concentration on holding the rampaging mana in his body.

"So…"

Before the demon could speak up, he got cut off. "I should thank you, because of you, I got something very useful."

The demon was confused for a moment but said nothing waiting for the time to pass.

"The mana core that you are making, I will use it wisely. So, you can die now." Rihito's voice turns cold.

The demon still confused suddenly felt a sizzling pain near his chest, vomiting blood and saw a glowing crimson sword sticking out of him. Then he felt it, the mana he was secretly gathered slipping and leaving him.

"N-no! Not now, I needed 3 more seconds…" the demon panicked.

[It can't be, it's slipping… the mana is slipping.] The demon notices this and tries to explode with all the mana he has gathered up to this point.

Nothing happened.

[What's going on…] The demon didn't understand why didn't he explode.

"I am assuming you are very confused and thinking, 'Why am I not exploding?' Or it is like 'It can't be!', or something similar. Just know this your mana is not yours anymore."

The demon then saw the man take off his mask and the crimson-glowing eyes behind it.

"That's all."

The demon felt his consciousness was fading. He was dying, he can sense it, "You damn humans and your false god must be feeling smug with this small win, don't you? But know this, in the end, we demons shall be the ones ruling this world led by the True God. Then the only fate that awaits you humans is complete submission under our foot."

Rihito, upon hearing the demon talk, sighed. There were so many things wrong with that sentence, but he didn't feel like correcting the demon.

"Enough talk, and time to get some information." Rihito disappeared, appearing right in front of the demon and grabbing him by his skull.

The demon scoffed hearing that, "You think, I would tell you, a human, dream on. Even if you torcher me to death, I will not speak a word to you."

Rihito smiled hearing that, "I know, that's why I won't ask, I will take."

The demon then felt a strange sensation in his head. "Ahh!" the demon screamed.

As the demon screamed, Rihito spoke, "You know, <Telepathy> is a nifty skill to have. With it, not only can you talk long distances with others, but you can also transfer your thoughts or feelings. If you are skilled enough, you can also read minds, break them, rewrite them, protect them, and do many other things."

"So, what do you think I am currently doing with you," Rihito smiled at the demon.

The demon's eyes widened, "No stop! Stop this! Stop!"

Rihito didn't react to the demons screaming. He was right now busy reading the memories.

[Freid. I will take care of the nuisance. Ankaji must fall. Return to the front-line palace. 7 days till the war began. My lord will…]

Rihito witnessed the memories, obtained the information he sought, and then freed the demon, who was bleeding profusely all over his body but still alive.

"You are quite tenacious, I have to say." Rihito then put his mask on, "But it's time to say goodbye."

"Tohru if you will please…" As I walked back, Tohru used her breath in a controlled manner to burn the demon.

"It's done, master what will we do now," Tohru asked.

Rihito smiled wickedly, "Of course, We will be heading to the Gruen Volcano, I have a surprise for someone. But before that..." Rihito looked at the red Crystal.
