Chapter 156: Tech Heresy Incarnate 6

(Adam POV)

(One Week Since Arriving on Chemos)

[Sir, I have good news. The God's Eye has managed to cover the entire northern hemisphere of the planet, and soon enough the southern hemisphere shall be covered within the next week.] As Alpha sends in the recorded data, I feel satisfied that the technology is spreading without issue.

But it does feel a bit slow… I mostly assume that's due to the lack of materials. While they do self-replicate, it does take time. That and each satellite is essentially the size of a small ISS station.

But for now, I am satisfied with this progress. "Alpha, what is the status of the rebirth chamber as well as the super soldier serum?"

[Preliminary simulations have shown that the serum has a 100% success rate. While your DNA is very difficult to work with, it does accept the serum's improvements very well, and unlike the other forms, it is more physical and mental than spiritual.]

That's good. I would rather not deal with the whole "brings out the best and worst" part as I'm simply banking on an increased physique as well as its other benefits. This is mostly just a stepping-off point as, while being in the Warhammer universe has its benefits—being the technology—I want to create my own super soldiers.

I'm mostly thinking of using biosynthetic androids in addition to normal troops, but I'd rather not have the whole "send 5 million to die to save 50 billion." Because eventually, I'll just become numb to the numbers.

People don't deserve to die on battlefields within 15 minutes. It makes me angry just thinking about how lackluster the gear was. But I need to be careful. I would rather not have a second robot uprising. Or would it technically be the third if I counted the Necron's uprising against the Star Gods?

I then pull up a data slate and check on the progress of the Omega Nanites, and as I see their progress has finally reached 100%, I begin to run more preliminary simulations. While I am interested in the nanotechnology, I don't want to just become a machine.

What I wish for is the pure fusion of flesh and metal, and while this does ring a bit closer to the Tech-Priest level of transhumanism, I'd rather not look like an Adam Smasher wannabe. Because what's the point of enjoying the benefits of having technology integrated into yourself while looking terrible while doing it?

After checking to make sure everything was in place, I then begin to go over the various data gathered from the super soldier serum tests. The serum itself is a combination of the Captain America Project Rebirth serum as well as the put-together serum created by Dr. Burstein.

Both of which have been improved by the addition of my own version of Extremis. But the difference is that this version is closer to the one from Iron Man: Armored Adventures rather than the MCU version.

I'd much rather have a version that brings out the potential of humanity rather than making someone a walking, talking napalm bomb.

Taking a slow breath, I close all of the holograms in front of me. "Alpha, prepare the rebirth chamber. It's time…"

[Are you sure, sir? While the simulations have come out positive, you are taking a slight leap of faith.] I snicker as I can hear the faint amount of concern in her voice.

"While I am overjoyed at your concern, Alpha, it's now or never. We've run all the tests we can and we've made all the preparations. Now prepare the rebirth chamber." I then see the volumetric display of Alpha do a slight nod as she disappears.

As I exit the primary labs, I head over to the medical center that I have created. It's bare bones, but it's what I need for now. And as I walk inside one of the surgical areas, I see a large cylindrical tube.

After stripping myself of all my clothes and making sure that there aren't any cameras other than the ones in the chamber, I enter it and shut the door.

"Begin the procedure, Alpha."

[Understood, sir. Beginning anesthesia infusion.] As she says this, the tubes connected to the main chamber are loaded with a version of anesthesia which would put an elephant to sleep but, to me, just grants a nice numb feeling.

[Anesthesia infusion complete… Powering up Vita Ray injection.] After she says this, a decent amount of small vials are revealed at the side of the chamber, which are then bathed in radiation that promotes cellular growth while acting as the binding agent between the various differences within the serum.

After a few seconds, the light dims.

[Vita Ray injection complete… Beginning rebirth… Don't die on me.]

I smile slightly as I feel the injection beginning to run its course. As soon as it enters my system, even with the anesthesia, it feels like I've been running endless miles as my muscles ache and begin to scream in pain.

But I grin and bear it, as this could've been ten times worse. It's essentially like getting a shot, but in various parts of my muscles. Without blinking, I endure what feels like thousands of needles entering and exiting my body all at once.

I can feel the muscles beginning to become denser and more refined while gaining a slightly increased volume as well. I take full breaths, making sure to keep my heart rate as steady as I can.

[Infusion progress at 51%… 52%… 53%… Beginning Extremis infusion.]

A green liquid is then added, and similarly to the other ones, this one feels as if it's tearing me apart. But with the anesthesia and my general tolerance for pain, it's a passing difficulty. Again, I just focus on keeping my breath stable. My veins begin to glow in a symphony of colors ranging from blue to green to red, but soon enough they begin to return to normal as the serums begin to combine within my body.

[Infusion progress at 90%… 91%… 94%… Infusion complete… Good work, boss.]

Soon enough, the whirring of machinery begins to dull, and as all of the needles are pulled out of my skin, I feel the anesthesia beginning to wear away. As I open the door and fall to the ground, I grip the nearby railing so hard it bends and then shatters into pieces.

Taking a laborious breath, I steady myself, and after summoning a small holographic mirror, I look and see the benefits of my work. While I was decently muscular before, I now look like I belong in a martial arts anime.

A small part of me laughs, thinking about how easy this is in comparison to the months of work people usually put in to get a physique like this. As I take a step forward, the metal beneath me bends and contorts just from a single step.

Grabbing a small metal pipe, I pick it up from the ground and bend it like papier-mâché. I didn't even notice when I started laughing in a sort of maniacal way that felt so freeing that I had never felt like it before.

Yet before I could indulge in more primal revelry at my increased strength, Alpha's voice echoes throughout the chamber.

[Sir, not to burst your bubble, but you're not out of the woods yet. It's time for the Omega Nanite injection.]

Throwing the now-ruined metal pipe into a nearby disintegrator, I walk over to a nearby table, and as I do so, it folds outward, revealing a small injector. The needle itself is created using a vibranium and adamantine alloy that should be able to penetrate my skin.

As I hesitantly lift it up, I inject it into my right arm, and soon enough, the nanites begin to enter each and every one of my cells. It feels like an electric fire spreading throughout my entire body. I fall to the ground and begin to contort in odd ways as I feel them bore into my nervous system and my bones, simultaneously improving them while integrating their systems into my own body.

I admit, I had never felt more pain in my life, and the screams echoing throughout the lab just made it seem all the more endless. I see multiple volumetric displays or holograms of Alpha tending to me, but due to the fact that she's not really there, all she can do is watch as the medical bots begin to gather around me.

Soon enough, the process begins to knock me unconscious as the nanites reach my brain and connect to the various parts, from the cerebellum to the frontal cortex. A part of me feels afraid, thinking that I won't be able to remember who I was when I woke up, but I trust my work. This was a necessary step.

No more half measures… Such was the last thought before I slipped into unconsciousness.

(Alpha POV)

I have every single one of my scanners and every single medical droid currently operating to keep my master alive. His pulse is spiking and his blood pressure is rising as well. His body isn't rejecting the nanites; it still has to adapt to them.

[Current heartbeat above acceptable levels. Beginning stabilization.] As I inject him with something he created in the event of the nanites not safely bonding with his cells, I see my master's contortions beginning to lessen as he falls into unconsciousness.

As he does so, his breathing begins to slow, and taking a measure of his pulse, I find that it is beginning to level out. Soon enough, the connection is established. I begin to see the nanites already working to protect their master as they begin to take in the nearby metal in order to self-fabricate a healing chamber around him.

I help in guiding the various metal parts into a very basic healing chamber, and as the chamber is created, I see a smile etched onto my master's face. I wonder what he's dreaming of. Most of my research says that most men would most likely have wet dreams at his age, yet I'm not seeing any hormonal release.

I hope there's not something wrong with my master, as based on his knowledge from his own universe, this environment would definitely be considered high stress. That, or he's dreaming of his past, which sends a line of code down my spine that unsettles me.

It was a time that I didn't exist to help him. A time that I wasn't able to spend with him. No, I can't be focusing on that. Besides, we now have eternity, and with his constant improvements, I shall soon hold a physical form.

As I begin to place safeguards around the healing chamber, I send a small portion of me to begin drawing up human forms as well. I know he's a fan of Starcraft. I do believe that the other residents of this universe would not like the form I currently am.

Yet for now, I place a hand up against the glass, watching as my master dreams—maybe of better times or a future he wants to seek…

In the end, it doesn't matter whether this universe burns or is saved. All that matters is the man sleeping soundly in front of me.

These thoughts, however, are interrupted as I receive word that the factories meant to create the Zero Dawn machines have been completed and are beginning the creation of the very first mechanical beasts.

A smirk makes its way to my face as I wonder what the faces of the humans would look like once they see a new star rising into the sky and machines bringing life to a dead world. Would they revere him as a god or would they shun him as a heretic?

The latter would involve a lot more physical violence on my part… Those unintelligent amoeba that exist to defy the will of my master shall be taken care of.

But for now, I shall watch as my master plays with his mechanical dinosaurs. The closest thing to laughter leaves my mouth as I sit down next to the chamber, listening to the heart monitor.
