Chapter 24: Chapter 24: The Apology

Melissa stood peacefully on the terrace, reveling in the breathtaking view that unfolded before her. As she took a deep breath, fragments of the previous night's events replayed in her mind, causing her cheeks to flush with embarrassment. She couldn't believe she had acted so recklessly and impulsively. It was truly unbelievable.

Suddenly, Jeremy's voice interrupted her thoughts. Startled, Melissa turned around and found him standing a short distance away. She hadn't even noticed his arrival, her mind consumed by her own self-reflection. Her face grew hotter, and she averted her gaze, unable to meet his eyes.

"It seems you've remembered everything," he remarked, his voice calm and composed.

Melissa nodded, her nervousness evident. "Mmm... Yes, I did. And you're right. I sincerely apologize. I deeply regret thinking that way this morning," Melissa admitted nervously. Avoiding direct eye contact, she focused her gaze on everything else but his face. feeling a mix of shame and regret.

Jeremy's next question caught her off guard. "And what exactly were you thinking?"

Confused by his inquiry, Melissa's confusion was palpable. "What?" she replied, her voice laced with bewilderment.

He repeated his question, his tone insistent. "I asked what exactly were you thinking?"

Melissa found the question unnecessary, but she didn't want to upset him any further. "Well... I thought you were a..." she began, hesitating.

"A what?" Jeremy interjected, his tone demanding a response.

Sensing the tension, Melissa decided to take a different approach. "I don't think it's necessary to delve into that question. I simply wanted to express my gratitude for saving me last night and for tolerating my foolishness when I was intoxicated," she stated, hoping to diffuse the situation.

To her dismay, Jeremy didn't respond. He didn't even glance in her direction. Instead, he turned and walked away, leaving Melissa standing there, filled with a sense of unease. She couldn't comprehend why he was being so cold and distant. Was he still harboring resentment?

Determined not to leave things unresolved, Melissa called out after him. "Listen," she pleaded, her voice tinged with desperation. "I am genuinely sorry, okay? Please don't be offended by my actions."

Jeremy didn't acknowledge her words. He didn't even acknowledge her presence. He simply continued on his way without a word.

Melissa watched in dismay as he disappeared from sight. "What was wrong with my apology?" she muttered to herself, frustration creeping into her voice. "This is so frustrating. I'm certain he despises me now."

Only a couple of minutes passed before Corene entered the room, carrying Melissa's clothes and bag. The kind-hearted woman wore a warm smile on her face and enveloped Melissa in an unexpected hug. Melissa, taken aback by the gesture, returned the embrace gratefully. Corene had been nothing but gentle and supportive throughout her stay.

"I hope to see you again soon, dear," Corene said with genuine warmth in her voice.

Melissa smiled in response. "Me too."

"Your ride is ready," Corene continued, gesturing toward the entrance. "Master Steve has offered to drive you home."

Melissa's brows furrowed in confusion. "Who?"

"Master Steve, one of Sir's closest friends," Corene clarified.

"Oh, alright. Could you please guide me downstairs? I wouldn't want to get lost again."

"Of course, dear. Follow me," Corene offered, leading Melissa down the stairs.

As Corene guided Melissa downstairs, and as they reached the building's entrance, a sleek Rolls-Royce caught Melissa's eye.

Standing next to the car was a tall, slightly muscular man, exuding an air of casual charm. He wore a crisp white t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops, as if he were ready for a day at the beach. Melissa's memory quickly jogged, recognizing him as the man she had met before. He was with Jeremy the night of the arts exhibition.

"Are you ready for your ride, my lady?" he asked with a warm smile, his eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief.

Melissa couldn't help but feel a sense of relief and comfort in his presence. "So, it will be you who will be giving me a ride?" she asked, a gentle smile playing on her lips.

Steve nodded, feigning humility. "Indeed, my lady. Your humble steward is at your service. Please forgive my rather informal appearance," he replied, glancing down at his flip-flops with a playful twinkle in his eyes.

Melissa chuckled, her tension easing. "Well, it seems like it will be quite an interesting car ride," she remarked, stepping closer to the vehicle.

Steve opened the car door for her, and with a graceful gesture, he gestured for her to enter. "Your chariot awaits, my lady," he said, adopting a slightly exaggerated tone.
