I ran to grab my phone. I had thought of my mom and sister. I tapped as fast as I could on my lagging phone screen.
"Come on! Shit! Why do I have this stupid flicking phone!"
"Here we go!"
I clicked on my mom's picture, and the phone rang.
But she didn't answer.
"Fuck! Mom! Please answer!"
I tried to call her about fifteen more times before I moved on to call my sister.
When I clicked on her name, Michelle, she had picked up the phone within the first ring.
"Ethan! Are you still at home!? Are you within a safe location!?"
"Yes and yes! Are you okay, Michelle!? What about mom!?! Did you get in contact with her?!"
There was a line of silence for a few seconds.
"....Michelle? Are you still there?"
"Oh! Yeah! Yeah! I'm still here! I was just making sure that Kayla didn't need help setting the barricades for the house."
"Oh! Alright! Are you at Kayla's house right now?"
"Yeah, her mom is also helping with barricades."
I thought about what I could do in this situation. There are a couple of options. The first one I thought of was to wait out what was happening outside. So, I peaked out the window.
I looked and saw that the meteorites or 'rocks' had stopped falling from the sky.
But, now there was a different problem…
There were 'creatures' flooding the streets. Plants, undead, mutant animals, and some creatures that looked like the fictional werewolves.
'Yeah… fuck that! I'm sure not going out there!'
So my second option, going out to join up with my sister, was out of the question!
The third option was to call for help, but in almost all horror movies, that doesn't work. Especially if there is an apocalypse, like what happens in novels, happening in real life.
I think we know which option I chose.
'Yeah… fuck options two and three! I'm staying inside.'
I looked on the phone to see if Michelle was still connected, she was.
"Michelle, I'm going to stay at the house until it looks better and more safe outside."
"Alright! Ethan… promise me you'll be safe, okay?"
"Yeah, I promise. Bye, sis."
"Okay, bye little bro."
I hung up the phone.
'Okay, I should block up the doors and windows. Maybe grab a weapon just in case, get into a safe room, and grab some snacks if I get hungry while waiting.'
I started to work on my plan. The most important thing I needed was a weapon to have on hand.
I walked to the kitchen to look around and see what I could use. I opened drawers and cabinets.
'The only thing we have is knives… I don't know how in the 'walking dead novels' they have a bat just around the corner! I could really use that! I don't want to get close to someone if I have to attack them! I don't even like getting close to normal people I see everyday!'
Since that was the option I had I grabbed a couple of them, big and small. I put the small ones on the inside of shoes, them standing on the side of it. I had then covered them with my pants leg.
I moved around a bit to see if it would stab me.
'As long as I don't do anything too crazy, it shouldn't stab me.'
I had the big knives left. I couldn't put them anywhere on my body, so I would have to hold it.
"Okay! Time to start barricading."
Since the house had an open floor plan, there was no wall to keep me from seeing into the living room. I put the knife down on the counter to start moving the table stands in front of the door.
I put the tables on top of each other to keep from others coming in.
*Ssschh*
'Did I do that for nothing!?! Who broke into the house!?! It sounded like it came from upstairs!'
I stood still and thought about what I should do.
'I'm definitely not going to investigate that sizzle! That's how everyone in horror movies dies!'
So, I tried going out the back door.
I walked as slowly as I could to the back door. Even though I saw most of the worst dangerous creatures are outside, I know that in an apocalypse, the most dangerous are not the creatures, but the humans.
I heard big heavy footsteps walking around the upstairs of the house. I was getting close to the back door.
'Okay, I'm almost there!'
When I reach out to grab the door handle….
*SLAM*
I got slammed into the floor. What I saw wasn't a human, it was one of those werewolf looking things I saw outside.
"Flip!"
I punch this humanoid dog in its snout. It jumped back, and was going to launch at me again. I quickly grabbed one of the knives that were inside my shoes. As soon as the werewolf jumped to me again, with its mouth open, I aimed for its eye.
I was able to stab the knife into its eye, killing it, but of course that also comes with a loss.
When I was aiming for its eye trying to kill it, it tore a chunk of my arm off.
'I'm going to die… even though I killed it, I'm going to die from blood loss. If I try to wrap it up it won't even matter… I promised Michelle I would stay alive… I guess I'm going to break it haha…'
Then the most unexpected thing happened in that moment. The werewolf that I killed started to disintegrate into thin air, like in a video game. In its place was a cloudy looking sphere, about the same size as a marble.
I thought for a second. I'm going to die either way. If I turn into an undead like in regular zombie movies, I can't do anything to help my mother and sister. After all…. I did promise big sis that I would stay alive…
I picked up the cloudy marble and did the unthinkable….
I swallowed it.
I made a promise, and I never break a promise. I'm going to live through this flicking apocalypse either dead or alive….
