Chapter 2: Daniel To The Rescue [Ch. 2]

Woodlands Biome, OverWorld

HeroBrine's Mansion

Daniels opened his eyes. He was laying down on a bed on his back. Sitting up, he looked around at the room he was currently in.

There were no windows. The walls were made of dark oak wood planks and cobblestone. The ceiling was made of oak wood planks. There was a fireplace in the center of the room, with a fire burning, crackling and popping.

There were lanterns hanging from the ceiling on chains. There was a single oak wood door to his right. The only means of escaping this room was right there.

"Where—am—I?" Daniel questioned as he began walking around the room.

There were small wooden chests placed around the room. They must be filled with something, right? There was a lectern located in the corner of the room with bookshelves lining the wall.

Daniel walks over to the bookshelves. Dozens of written books were on the shelves. The Scary Tales of HeroBrine, The Legend of the Brine Family, How to Feed Cows, and one book simply titled Mineaggedon: The End of the OverWorld.

"Mineaggedon?" Daniel questioned, "the end of the OverWorld? HeroBrine? Who's house am I in?"

The wooden door opened up. Daniel quickly turned around. HeroBrine had entered the room with Maximus on a leash.

"Hello Daniel," HeroBrine greeted, "sleep well, did we?"

"Maximus?" Daniel asked as he looked directly at HeroBrine, "what have you done? Why am I here? Where's Petra?"

HeroBrine took the lead off of Maximus' collar. "Sit Max!" He said.

HeroBrine began walking around the room with his hands behind his back. He was pacing back and forth in a straight line.

"Oh you mean your friend?" HeroBrine asked, "oh she's fine. Trust me. I wouldn't dare hurt a single blockhead. I leave that to my good friends the Pillagers."

Daniel grabbed his iron sword out of his inventory. He firmly held his sword in his hand, preparing himself to fight HeroBrine.

"You're a monster," Daniel shouted as the anger inside of him began to grow. The angrier he became, the chances of him getting into a deadly duel with HeroBrine grew.

HeroBrine stopped walking. He looked directly at Daniel. He reached behind his back and grabbed a painting out of his inventory.

"I wasn't always a monster you know," HeroBrine said as he showed Daniel the painting of him. He was standing next to a girl with orange, long hair. She had green eyes, wore a green shirt and brown pants, with black boots.

He was wearing a light blue shirt with dark blue pants and black shoes. He had brown hair. Much like his hair he has now and semi-dark blue eyes.

"What is this?" Daniel asked.

"Me and my friend Alex. Indeed, I did have friends a long time ago."

"That's not possible," Daniel said, "this is all just a trick. Part of a grand scheme, right?"

"No tricks. No gimmicks. This is just me telling you that I wasn't always a monster," HeroBrine said.

"Then tell me how you got your name!"

"My name before I died was Steve," HeroBrine said, "Before your Village came into existence I lived in a farmhouse in the Plains Biome."

"Go on. I'm listening," Daniel said.

"One day, my friend Alex told me about this egg. It was no ordinary egg, but a special one. She brought up the idea of venturing into the End Dimension. I reluctantly agreed to participate and assist her on a dangerous, perilous quest."

"Then what happened?" Daniel asked as he put his iron sword back into his inventory. He started to feel bad for HeroBrine. Why he was feeling that way was unanswerable at the moment.

"We went to the End. But instead of defeating the Ender Dragon, we were killed by it. Alex and I both were killed. The next thing I remember is waking up in the middle of a Forest next to a chest. My first thought was, of course, to return to my house to see if Alex was there. But when I came across a Village and asked for help, the Villagers all turned me down and cast me away."

"They cast you out with no assistance? Why?" Daniel questioned.

HeroBrine put the painting back into his inventory. He pulled a clock out of his inventory and checked the time.

"Oh look. My plan worked. You must hurry along now Daniel. Your friend's life depends on it!" HeroBrine said.

"You were stalling weren't you?"

"I was. I can't believe you actually fell for it. It was a good story though wasn't it? The whole I "wasn't always a monster" story. That was all made up. The real story was I killed Steve and Alex after they stumbled upon my land. And let me tell you, they didn't go without a fight. But they're dead so who cares now, am I right?" HeroBrine said, "as for your friend, well….see you around."

HeroBrine then disappeared. White particles rose into the air after he vanished. Daniel didn't hesitate to stand around a moment longer. He ran out into the hallway.

The hallway was long and narrow. Redstone torches lined the walls, giving off a faint, eerie red glow. The carpeting was red.

"What is it with blockheads liking the color red so much?" Daniel questioned as he glanced down the hallway to his right, and then to his left, "oh chickens. Which way do I go?"

He decided on running down the right side of the hallway. "Petra? Where are you?"

"Daniel? I'm in here!" Petra shouted faintly.

She was close though. Once he turned left to go down another long hallway, dark oak doors lined each side of the hallway.

"Hay bales! Which room is she in?" Daniel said as he walked up to the first on his left. He opened it. Behind the door was a dark oak planked wall. There was no room. Which door was Petra truly behind? There are so many doors, so many possibilities.

He moved onto the next door a few feet away. This dark oak door did have room behind it. But the room was dark, too dark to see anything. He reluctantly opened the door and walked inside.

"Stay out here Max," Daniel said. Max sat down and waited patiently.

Daniel grabbed a torch from his inventory. And when he held the torch in his hand, a creeper's face appeared. It was looking directly into his eyes.

Another Creeper's face appeared in the light followed by another and another. They all had white eyes with no pupils. Truly scary.. and dangerous. "Oh sea pickles," Daniel said as he backed away cautiously. The Creeper's followed, beginning to hiss as they began flashing white.

"Max," Daniel said as he continued backing up into the hallway, "run!"

As Daniel began running frantically down the hallway, Max followed. A swarm of Creeper's came flooding out of the dark room and into the hallway.

Daniel ran up to another door, opening it. He ran inside the room, shutting the door behind. Miraculously, he stumbled upon Petra.

She was being held in a cage made of iron bars. He walked over to the cage to see if Petra was hurt in any way. Luckily though she wasn't. She looked at Daniel, clearly showing signs of being scared.

"Petra?" Daniel said, "are you okay?"

"Mhm," Petra said as she peaked over Daniel's shoulder. Daniel saw her look away. He turned his head slightly to his right.

Standing behind him….was three Pillagers. One was holding a banner, one was holding an iron axe, and one was holding a crossbow.

"Don't kill them Daniel," Petra said as Daniel reached into his inventory to grab his iron sword. "If you kill them, you'll be cursed. We won't ever be able to return home if you do this!"

"I'm not letting HeroBrine win," Daniel said as the Pillager with an axe charged at him. He hit the Pillager with his sword. The axed Pillager wasn't able to hit Daniel, not even once.

The Pillager holding the crossbow aimed and shot his first arrow. Daniel was hit by the arrow. His body briefly flashed red because he had lost a heart.

Daniel charged at the Pillager with a crossbow. The Pillager aimed and fired another shot as quickly as he could. Another arrow had hit Daniel.

Daniel swings his sword, hitting the Pillager, knocking the Pillager back against the wall. He swings his sword again. This time he kills the Pillager. After it died, it dropped a weakened crossbow and a mysterious potion. Daniel picked these items up.

"Don't kill the Pillager Captain! You'll get bad omen!" Petra warned Daniel. He didn't listen and approached the Captain.

The Captain hit Daniel, knocking him back one block. Daniel approached again. He was now down to only six hearts. If he lost only three more, his life would be in drastic danger.

He swings his sword again, this time striking the Pillager Captain. The Captain fell over onto his side and died.

"No! Why would you do that?" Petra said, "I told you not to kill him. Now you have bad omen!"

"I did it to save you. Bad omen can't last forever."

"But it will last for 99 days!" Petra said angrily. Daniel put his sword away and walked back over to the cage in which Petra was trapped in. He grabbed his diamond pickaxe out from his inventory and began mining the iron bars. One by one, the iron bars broke apart. Petra was now free from captivity.

"C'mon. We need to leave now!" Daniel said. "It's not safe here."

"I knew that," Petra responded. "Why weren't you in a cage? What did he do to you?"

"HeroBrine must've used a potion of sleeping on me when he took us as hostages."

"Where are we exactly?" Petra asked.

"HeroBrine's mansion I'm assuming. This place is crawling with mobs. There's a pack of Creeper's coming our way as we speak. That's why we need to leave now!"

"I hate Creepers!"

"Me too!" Daniel said as he looked down at the floor at Max. "C'mon boy. We're leaving this place."

"Do you even know what Biome we're in right now?" Petra asked.

"No. We'll figure that out when we get outside. For now, let's just worry about getting out of this haunted house okay?" Daniel said as both him and Petra walked out of the room and into the hallway.

Once they were in the hallway, they froze as they looked down the hallway to their left. At the end of the hallway, blocking the only way out of HeroBrine's mansion, was a swarm of Zombies, Skeletons, Spider-Jockeys, and Creepers.

"Um Daniel," Petra said, "how do you plan on getting through them?"

Daniel reaches into his inventory once more and grabs his iron sword. He looks at Petra. "By fighting them of course."
