Chapter 4: Capter 4- First battle (1)
As the four gang members slowly walked closer to Ethan and Ruth, they both readied their weapons. When a gang member with a lion head got into a distance of about two meters from Ethan, Ethan's spear came hurtling towards his head with incredible speed. The gang member was caught off guard, as he didn't expect Ethan to be capable of such a feat, and couldn't dodge in time. The spear impaled his head and he fell lifeless to the ground, with a clear hole in his forehead.
"Shit... I wanted first blood", Ruth cursed and prepared to rush forward. "Then be quicker next time", Ethan teased her with a slight smile as he returned to his battle stance once again.
"You bastard!" Another gang member, this time one with sharp and long claws instead of fingernails, ran forward to kill Ethan. However, before he could do anything, Ruth lunged towards him from the side. "Get out of my way, trash!" The gang member said while slashing horizontally at Ruth's quickly approaching face.
Luckily, just before his claws hit Ruth's face, Ruth slid down to avoid his claws. The claw wilder made a slightly panicked face as he performed an overhead slash downwards to his Ruth. Unfortunately for him, Ruth saw his attack coming and stabbed his open hand with her dagger before his attack could reach her. "AHHHHHH" a loud scream was heard. Ruth wasn't finished though, as she quickly got up when she slid close enough and stabbed him through the heart with her second dagger before he got over the shock from the pain.
"Come on! This is the first real battle I had in four months! I didn't wait for that long to encounter a bunch of weaklings" Ruth taunted. "You filthy quirkless! You five, join the other two in killing those two and then start slaughtering!" The leader barked his order to the five gang members who prepared to start killing off some of the quirkless as he previously ordered.
The five enemies started to return, but Ethan and Ruth didn't wait quietly. There was no way they were going to let themselves get surrounded. Ruth charged at a gang member that stood in front of her while Ethan was right behind her. The man seemed normal, so ruth judged that his ability must be either an emitter type quirk, though the possibility was close to 0 since they were highly sought after by the Warlords, or some sort of secret enhancement. Either way, Ruth had a countermeasure. Ruth suddenly ducked down to cut his leg, but the guy sidestepped her with a super-human reaction speed that a normal human, even a well trained one, could not have.
Ruth smirked as just when the gang member sidestepped, Ethan shot his spear at the gang member's throat. The gang member managed to bearly tilt his head to dodge while being a little off-balance from the surprise attack. Ethan immediately moved his spear-arm in the same direction that the gang member tilted his head and the spear managed to cut his throat before he regains his balance.
"Damn it, Ruth, you gave me a fright! Don't duck suddenly without telling me like that, how was I supposed to prepare?" Ethan scolded Ruth. "But it turned out OK" Ruth replied, "you're hopeless" Ethan gave up. The pair didn't stop as Ethan ran to the fourth gang member while Ruth ran to the incoming reinforcements. The fourth gang member didn't sit quietly, and suddenly, a golden ripple ran over his body. Ethan stared cautiously at the weird phenomenon, his senses told him to be careful. Ethan attempted to stab the man's seemingly vulnerable abdomen with his spear, but his senses were right. As soon as the spear struck the golden layer, Ethan knew he was tricked. His rusty spear couldn't penetrate the golden layer which bent like rubber. Instead, his spear got stuck in the golden layer and Ethan couldn't retrieve it regardless of the amount of force he used. The man let out a cackling laugh as he himself took Ethan's spear which offered no resistance to the man. "Let's see how good you are with no weapon!" The man declared as he attempted to stab Ethan with his own spear.
Ruth, while charging at the incoming enemies, noticed Ethan's situation and understood that Ethan won't be able to help her anytime soon. Not that she wanted his help. Ruth, being a battle maniac, savored the adrenaline rush that a life or death battle gave her. She couldn't pinpoint where it started, but she knew it was from a long time ago.
"Stand back, I'll take her on." an especially muscular gang member stepped forward. He refused to believe that they needed the five of them to deal with one quirkless. Suddenly, he kicked the charging Rugh who was still quite far, approximately 5 meters, yet his leg stretched out until it reached her. Ruth was quite surprised, but she ducked down and let the leg pass right above her head. Ruth didn't waste this opportunity and attempted to stab the vulnerable leg, but the gang member quickly retracted his leg. "Don't get high and mighty just because you took out some new blood", the thug exclaimed. Ruth charged again and this time the thug sent out a fist aimed at he head. Ruth tilted he head to the side while sprinting forward to take advantage of the unprotected area.
Unfortunately for Ruth, as soon as the hand passed her head. the gang member opened his fist and retracted his arm, catching the back of Ruth's head in the process. The gang member didn't stop and continued to retract his arm, dragging Ruth towards him and making her lose her balance. Ruth was a fighting expert though, and only lost her balance for a split second. but in that split second, the gang member already sent his knee towards Ruth's rapidly approaching head. *Bang*
Ruth retreated backward to recuperate from the strike, and surprisingly, the gang member did the same. "How's your leg?" Ruth said mockingly while looking at the large cut she made on the gang member's leg while he kneed her in the face. "I'm going to repay this tenfold!", the gang member cried in anger as he charged at Ruth, no longer wanting the keep the distance.
Ruth smirked as she stabbed the gang member in the chest, but unlike what she expected, the gang member's body stretched backward while encompassing the dagger and avoiding any form of damage. While Ruth was taken aback, the gang member wrapped his arm around Ruth's arm and slowly made his way wrapping around her. Ruth couldn't do a thing, how could she? One of the daggers was taken out of the battle, and she couldn't use the other one since she would just stab herself. And with a wound that big, it was bound to get infected.
Ethan's situation wasn't much better. His opponent's quirk was able to neutralize his weapon and as a weapon specialist, it was a devastating blow. Even worse was the fact that his opponent's golden layer absorbed most of the impact from his regular hits so he couldn't even damage his opponent in a real way. "It seems I overestimated you", the leader said while watching Ruth get incapacitated and Ethan bearly damaging his opponent.

'Shit! Shit! Shit! Mom and Dad are getting destroyed!' David thought as he saw his parents' fruitless struggle. It didn't help that the other gang members started to kill off the other quirkless as the leader commanded, the other quirkless may have learned some basic martial arts moves in the last couple of weeks, but it was far from enough and they lacked experience.
screams sounded from different places as David ran home to get his staff. He needed to hide his quirk, but it's not like he has a flashy one. He could enchant his staff with a paralysis effect and another enchantment which will make it tougher. He grabbed the staff and ran to the battle while enchanting with the required effects. He would have made more enchantments, but he discovered that for now, two enchantments was the best he could do. David quietly snuck behind the gang member who was currently restraining Ruth and struck his head.
*BANG* David struck the gang member's head with the utmost force he could muster. The man screamed in pain and turned stiff. "MOM ESCAPE!" David yelled as he was experiencing an adrenalin rush like never before. "David, what the fuck are you doing here?!" Ruth was horrified to see her son getting involved in the battle. "I'll tell you later but for now escape! you don't have much time!", David said as he hit the man again to paralyze him once more. Ruth noticed the situation and quickly stabbed the now stiff head of the man, intending to blind him or stun him, but the strick killed him as he couldn't bend his head to swallow the dagger. She escaped his now loose grasp and prepared to go save the other quirkless. She wondered why she managed to kill her captor with a stab he should have easily evaded but she didn't have time to ponder that.
"Go kill those other fuckers, I'll help Dad!" David exclaimed. Ruth nodded and went to sneak up on the other gang members. Thanks to the fighting and screaming no one noticed what happened. Ruth saw that Ethan is still struggling with his initial opponent so she thought of a strategy. Ruth noticed that they were close to one of the ruined buildings, and luckily it had a loose concrete wall. Ruth sprinted forward when the man was in front of the house and screamed at Ethan to get out of the way. While the man was confused, Ethan had absolute faith in his wife and jumped out of the way just as Ruth tackled the man.
Ruth would never perform such a suicidal maneuver, but since the man's protective layer absorbed shock, she couldn't have knocked him the required distance any other way. They both crashed into the wall and Ruth immediately rolled to the side to avoid the collapsing wall. *BAM* the wall fell on top of the man, killing him instantly, but Ruth wasn't unscathed. Her right arm was buried in rubble from the shoulder down, crushing it to dust.

Sorry for the late upload. Our government decided to open schools up again with basically 0 notice so I was scrambling to finish tasks and organize my stuff. I'm starting tomorrow so my god have mercy on my soul, but considering how poorly my country is dealing with COVID I'm giving the school 2 weeks before some kid catches COVID and they shut down again.
