"You know, the worst kind of betrayal is when it comes from someone you trust the most." - Lelouch Lamperouge, Code Geass
Momo had tears in her eyes seeing a familiar face. She couldn't hold back tears as she jumped on the approaching Maki and started crying profusely.
It took a while for her to calm down as Maki hugged her and comforted her.
Once she calmed down, Izuku and Maki started feeding her.
"Who's she?" asked Momo meekly when she saw Kaina sitting very close to Izuku.
"She's Kaina, the one whose name you heard through that small bird," said Maki.
Momo had her head down, as she was ashamed to have been caught spying.
"Don't worry we aren't angry with you, we knew that bird had a camera and microphone in it," said Izuku, patting her head.
"How did you know where I was and that I was attacked?" asked Momo.
"Just like you, I also had my eyes on you," said Izuku.
"Why?" asked Momo her emotions in a total mess.
"Because you are Maki's first friend and I wanted to make sure you are okay, and if you are betraying her then get rid of you as well," said Izuku with the last part in a very cold tone.
Momo had cold sweat run down her spine.
"You should know by now that I was the one who saved you both times right?" asked Izuku.
Momo nodded, "I felt something familiar about you when you saved me the first time, but I wasn't able to pinpoint exactly, but upon seeing you for the second time, especially your eyes, I found out it's you," said Momo.
"Good," said Izuku
Then began the question-answer session where Momo solved all the doubts she had in her mind, like who Izuku was, what his real name was, why was he involved in the killings and what was the thing they were hiding from her.
Izuku answered all of them, although he kept his answers a bit vague, as he would tell the full story only when she agreed to join them in their cause.
She could also report this to the police or pro heroes, or her intentions with asking questions like this could be to make Izuku and others let their guard down and spill the beans, then Izuku would have to kill her as well, so he gave vague answers, which he had instructed Kaina and Maki to do as well when Momo was unconscious.
Momo nodded in satisfaction at getting some answers, however, she felt that it was still incomplete information, but she understood, he wouldn't spill that kind of information too easily and she had to make do with what she had for now which was already too much for her to digest.
Then began Izuku's questions regarding what happened and does she knew anything for which she and her parents would have been attacked and killed respectively.
However, she didn't have answers to it.
"Who is Masaru Yaoyorozu?" asked Izuku.
"Uncle? How do you know his name?" asked Momo confused.
"Ohh, so he's your uncle I see," said Izuku while musing something.
"Why, what happened?" asked Momo
"The person who sent attackers behind you, as well as killed your parents is Masaru Yaoyorozu," said Izuku in a serious tone.
Momo's breath hitched, the sweet rice turning to ash in her mouth. "Uncle Masaru?" she whispered, the world tilting on its axis. "But... why?" Disbelief, raw and painful, flooded her eyes. Uncle Masaru, her kind, jovial uncle who always brought her the biggest gifts and teased her with silly riddles - how could he be behind this nightmare?
Izuku held her gaze, his bright red eyes filled with sorry, and pity. "He hired the attackers, Momo. And... he's responsible for your parents' deaths." He understood how painful it is to be betrayed by your own family, how could he not, he was betrayed by his own family.
Denial, fierce and desperate, clawed at Momo's throat. "No," she choked out, tears blurring her vision. "It's a lie! Uncle Masaru loved us. He wouldn't..." Her voice hitched, replaced by ragged sobs that escaped like trapped birds.
Izuku met Momo's gaze, his eyes holding a sincerity that cut through the confusion in her mind. "Momo, a dying man always says the truth. He knew he was going to die as his allies did, he had that look in his eyes, and he was pissing his pants, trying to think of ways to save his life, there's no way he would lie in that state.
I'm telling you all this because you need to know that it wasn't some outsider who did it, but your uncle, so that you don't end up swayed by the fake words of your uncle. There was something your uncle wanted, and your parents were acting like a hindrance for him, so he got rid of them, and attacked you, so that you, who is walking the same path as your parents, the righteous one, wouldn't become a hindrance in the future." Said Izuku.
The warmth of Maki's hand on her shoulder did little to quell the icy fear snaking its way through her veins. The uncle who doted on her, who regaled her with stories of faraway lands, who seemed larger than life in his kindness - could he truly be capable of such cruelty?
Momo, still grappling with the revelation, felt the weight of Izuku's words. "But how did you know about the attack? How did you get there in time?"
"As I said before, I had my eyes on you, especially after you wanted to reform us, when in reality, it's the society that needs reforming Momo," said Izuku
She looked into his eyes, searching for any hint of deception. "So, what do you want from me? Why are you involved in all of this?"
Izuku responded with a steady gaze, "I want to offer you a choice, Momo. Your family's legacy doesn't have to end this way, it doesn't have to be defined by your uncle's choices. We're here to provide protection and a chance for you to break free from the darkness that surrounds you, get revenge for your parents, continue their legacy, and make them proud of you.
I am involved in all this because society wronged me, and I don't want the future generation that comes after us, to suffer the consequences of our action, it's all for a better future, where kids don't have to be bullied or discriminated against because of their quirks or appearance, where deceit and betrayals are heard only in fairytale…" Izuku went on explaining his ideal world, a bit too exaggerated and believable.
Kaina added, "We've seen the dark reality of this corrupt society. You have the power to choose, either blindly follow people who would backstab you the second you turn your back on them and die trying to bring a change or be among those who wish to bring true justice to the world, who have the power to bring that change."
Momo, torn between blind faith in her uncle and the opportunity for a safe future where she carries on her parents' legacy, felt a surge of conflicting emotions. The truth about her uncle's actions was undeniable, and she had to decide whether to accept the offered protection and guidance or forge her path in this intricate web of lies and peril all alone.
The image of her parents, their gentle smiles forever etched in her memory, shattered within her. Betrayal, sharp and venomous, coiled in her gut. The foundation of her trust, her faith, crumbled to dust, leaving a gaping void of despair.
Grief, raw and primal, erupted from within. Tears streamed down her face, each one carrying away a piece of her innocence, her security. The world she knew, the one built on love and laughter, lay shattered at her feet.
Maki held her close, her tears mingling with Momo's. Izuku knelt before them, his hand reaching out as he wiped her tears and patted her head. He understood the storm raging within her, the treacherous path between denial and acceptance.
At that moment, surrounded by the ruins of her trust, Momo was a little girl lost in a world turned upside down. The familiar face that brought tears of joy had become a stranger, masked by lies and betrayal. And as she cried, the weight of grief and fear threatened to consume her whole.
It was tough for her to accept everything, afterall it was a bond built over years, that too familial bond, afterall she's someone who has never encountered hardships in her life, and it was going to hurt her enough before she could come out of it, Izuku stood up and told Maki and Kaina, "Look after her and don't leave her alone, I'll be back later" saying that he teleported out of the room.
Somewhere in an isolated dark place lit only by a small table lamp sounds of thrashing things and destroying things can be heard as a voice said, "Not again you damn bastard, why are you hindering all of my plans, can't you sit quietly."
