Chapter 3: Messmer the Impaler

The sweltering heat was unexpected, Steve ran towards the latest round of screams. He tried his best to ignore the dead bodies laid out around the unfamiliar but so familiar city of New York.

He hated this.

God he hated this.

He had to run past those on the brink of death simply because he knew, they knew, the world knew that they would not live to see tomorrow.

Such is war.

And war is what these Aliens brought to his city, his planet.

He threw his shield towards a large chittering alien with no flourish, no hesitation nor doubt as it almost decapitated the humanoid.

He felt nothing as he watched the alien drop dead, he wasn't enjoying it but he didn't feel pity for the beast either.

He didn't feel pity for the next alien that was on the wrong end of his shield either.

And as dozens of aliens surrounded him he didn't feel pity nor remorse for how he put them down, they were in his city.

The crackle of lightning was loud as The God of Thunder brought down death to his enemies with ease, Steve however had no such luck.

His enemies had to die by his hands, under his fists and the sharp edge of vibranium slicing them apart.

Steve felt the quickly rising temperature was now stifling, he eyed the distant glow of fire and felt his jaw clench. The fire was monstrous, it appeared as if the fire was striking at nearby buildings and causing massive damage.

Undoubtedly civilians would be nearby, he did notice however that even aliens were seemingly surrounding the fire.

He however didn't hesitate and took a step towards the inferno that had the glass surrounding him turning into liquid.

"Steve!" The voice of Tony Stark sparked through his earpods and Steve paused to listen to the man; he wouldn't be talking to him unless he had vital information.

"Tony" Steve's voice rang back, calm and composed even as the heat was stifling and causing his body to sweat unendingly.

His instincts were screaming at him to leave, this isn't your average house fire. Something was wrong with this fire but Steve did as he always did and ignored his baser instincts and responded with unending bravery.

"Steve the fire has some crazy energy readings, similar to the big guys lightning" he informed in a rush through an EarPod that crackled as Tony flew around his own battlefield fighting dozens of aliens all in flying tech.

"So you're saying we've got what, another pretend god on our hands?" He asked with his eyes narrowed on the fire, something seemed to be emerging.

He saw dozens of shadows emerging, no…revealing themselves.

The shadows weren't moving, the fire was simply falling back slightly allowing the silhouettes to be seen.

"Maybe, all I know is right now it's killing aliens" Tony said through the EarPod.

Steve caught on to what Tony said quickly "It's killing aliens?" He asked. "You're talking about the fire?" He half asked with narrowed eyes.

"St-" the EarPod crackled out, Steve felt a scowl rise on his face as he watched the shadows in the fire reveal themselves further.

He took a couple steps forwards and felt the air get thinner as he walked towards the scalding, crackling fire.

He had never come across a fire so loud before, it sounded as if grenades were constantly going off inside of the molten inferno.

He knew he couldn't get any closer, as much as he wanted to.

Steve knew how dangerous fire was, many don't.

He had been on the frontlines of World War 2, he knew how devastating fire could be. Even to one such as he who had been genetically enhanced above any human.

The shadows that were simply blobs of black in the fire were getting clearer by the second and soon Steve learned what Tony meant by 'Its killing aliens'

'It' wasn't in reference to the fire, no it was in reference to the silhouette of a man in the fire becoming clearer by the second.

The lithe figure was effortlessly holding a spear even taller than themselves above its head with ease that hinted to some extent of strength enhancement, given on top of the spear was an impaled Alien that had to weigh at least 200 kilograms.

The fire dropped back further revealing dozens of aliens all impaled on spears, the air seemed to be vibrating from just the presence of this being.
