Just like Cozan mentioned in his letter, there were eyes everywhere when Gideon arrived in the town. Eyes that could only be seen by people like him. They were stationed especially at the gateway, presumably to catch all who enters and exits the place.
In order not to call too much attention to himself, he had taken the commonest of buses to the town. But he knew that he still didn't escape their eyes, because he noticed a few people following him while he was looking for the inn.
Although they tried to be subtle enough so as to go unnoticed, he still caught on to it. So he moved around aimlessly until he was sure he had lost them before he continued on his mission.
When he finally found the inn, he walked inside majestically as if he owns the place, going straight to the counter where he could see the man with an eye patch.
"You must be Stanford." Gideon pointed out, making the man put on a small frown.
The side story is out come and read.
