Chapter 5: Chapter 4

-Lee Hana-

I wake up to the vibrations of my phone on my bed. My alarm? No way. It's a Sunday. It stopped and then picked up again. I fumble for my phone at my bedside table and squint at it. Jeongguk? At 6:08 am? I tap on the green pick-up option and press the phone to my ear.

"/What do you want?/" I groan, sleep still fogging my brain.

"/I'm outside your dorm,/" comes his clear voice.

"/What?/"

"/Just open the door. Please?/" I can hear the pout in his voice.

"/Fine!/" I growl, and end the call. I throw on a big hoodie and sluggishly walk over to the door.

"/Good morning!/" Jeongguk whispered with a smile on his face.

"/Why are you here at this ungodly hour?/"

"/So we can go out without people around./"

"/Why are you so secretive about yourself?/"

"/That's a story for another time… uh… you should brush your hair/"

"/Huh?/" I walk over to the mirror to find my black hair tangled and piled on top of my head as if a creature wanted to make his home there. I blush a deep beet red, embarrassed that Jeongguk is already seeing me as such a mess after knowing me for only a day.

I tell Jeongguk to wait in the kitchen while I change in my room. He agrees and sits down at one of the small creaky wooden chairs. I rush into the bedroom quietly and open my closet. Shit, none of my clothes are good for going out. I hop over to Irene's closet. She has the best clothes. From her closet, I steal a red off-the-shoulder top and dark skinny jeans. I put on my favorite black sneakers and walk back to the kitchen.

Jeongguk's perspective

I sit in the chair for what seems like forever. The kitchen smells homely, and it is messy in a sort of comfortable way. I drum my fingertips on the cold hardwood table and hum the melody of Boy With Luv. Tik. Tik. The slow beat of the silver clock on the wall makes everything seem slower. I check the time. It has been 10 minutes. And then, Hana comes out.

Her outfit is so good. She is so beautiful. I sigh quietly and stand up. "Let's go," I smile. She grabs my arm and I take her down the stairs and into the chilly morning. It is sunrise when we step outside, and the sky looks like a painting. Light purples, blues, oranges, and yellows are strewn across the great expanse like paint strokes. Hana's face is in a mask of awe and surprise. "It's beautiful," she breathes.

"/Where are we going?/" she asks.

"/You'll see,/" I say, smirking. I take her soft hand and lead her down the street. I had found this place earlier today, and I knew that she would love it.

We walk towards a cabin-like building made of large, uneven brown bricks. The instant I step inside, the smell of warmth and chocolate fills my senses. I know that this was the perfect place. This cafe is littered with wooden circular tables. Each table had a red and white table cloth, two chairs, and a vase with a bouquet of flowers. Warm yellow lights hung from the ceiling and small pots of wildflowers were lined up on the windowsills.

"Hello friends, welcome to the Brick Cafe!" a waitress welcomes us after we walk a few more feet, "Let me take you to your seat."

The waitress passed us some menus and said, "Today's soup of the day is Chicken Noodle Soup and the daily special is Salted Caramel Pancakes. What would you like to start with?"

"We would like an English Breakfast tea and a-" Hana begins

"A cappuccino please," I fill in. The waitress nods and leaves for the kitchen.

We talk comfortably for a bit, exchanging funny stories. When the waitress returns, we order crepes to share.

Then I ask Jeongguk about his job. He tenses up at the question and says that he'll tell me later. His hands start fidgeting, he looks askance, and I think he's penniless, he's flying by the seat of his pants. I decide to push it aside, as money isn't the most important thing to me.

For most of the meal, it is just the two of us in the cafe. It is quiet, and it is nice to talk to him without any outside noise interrupting us. After a while, an elderly couple enters the cafe. They sit down a couple of feet away from us.

They order some food and start talking, which neither of us could help to overhear. The elderly woman says, "Don't they remind you of when we first met each other?"

"Yea," the man says slightly absentmindedly.

I feel a blush creep onto my face, "/What happened?/" Jeongguk asks, confused.

"/It's nothing./"

"/Is it really? Because I don't think that 'nothing' would make you blush like that/"

Jeongguk teases me a bit more and soon enough, we were finished with our meal. We make our way back to my dorm.
