Chapter 1: Under the Blossom Tree
On the last night of the first month on the lunar calendar, an ominous air filled the Lui pack mansion. Lui Feng, the Alpha of the most powerful pack in existence and CEO of one of the major companies in the world, felt a familiar aura.
An aura he had hoped and waited a long time to feel once again, he immediately recognized the aura. How could he not? When it was the same aura that made his heart beat and drove him crazy 200 years ago.
It was the night of the full moon and he wasn't supposed to leave the Lui pack mansion due to his inability to control his shifting but a little voice in his head told him that if he didn't go now, he was going to miss the opportunity to find what he had been waiting for all this while. He ran outside and the moment he basked in the light rays of the full moon, he involuntarily shape-shifted into his wolf form.
"Alpha", his Beta Aiguo, roared noticing his master's sudden actions but it was of no use as he watched him speed away.
He got to the outskirts of the city and saw a peach blossom tree. Under this tree in the shadows, he saw what he had been waiting for, what he had been craving for, 200 years soaked in tears. His heightened senses detected murderous intent around the area telling him to leave immediately but he didn't realize when he walked towards her mesmerized by her scent.
She looked up at him her long golden hair was messy and her eyes were swollen from her crying, she had purplish-looking bruises all over her arms but none of that could taint the gentle dull but beautiful glow emanating from her. He noticed her eyes fill with fear at the sight of his wolf form but he wasn't able to shift back to his human form as the full moon made it difficult for him to gain control.
He sighed inwardly but then she did something he had never thought she would do at least not while he looked like a rabid animal. She raised her hands and patted his head, softly running her hands through his fur then she smiled and his frozen heart thawed immediately. How long had it been since he felt like this since he felt anything?
All of a sudden the sound of a gunshot rang through the air, barely missing the girl in front of him who froze and widened her eyes in shock. He wasn't ready to find out if the next shot was going to miss or not.
He immediately put the frail-looking girl on his back, she was extremely light which was not surprising at all. He made a small but quick movement which startled the human forcing her to hold on to him, then he dashed moving quick enough to escape but not quick enough to make her fall taking her back to the pack mansion.
At the pack mansion the smell of human flesh awakened the senses of many pack members but no one dared to come close as she rode on the Alpha's back. Everyone was shocked and couldn't move either who could be so important to take a ride on the Alpha's back?! This was a very strange night indeed.
He took her back to his room and was finally able to transform back into a human, he went into the closet and wore a simple white shirt and black pants. He walked towards the bed where she had fallen asleep, sleeping peacefully, and just stood in front of her staring at her face.
His mate had returned.
Then a small knock on the door was heard disrupting his thoughts and his Beta came in and bowed his head. Raising his head his eyes immediately focused on the girl lying on the bed seemingly unconscious.
"Alpha, the pack members are curious about the human girl you brought here as she can endanger us...", said the Beta, he didn't want to add that last part as he trusted his Alpha would never bring any harm to them but his actions tonight were just too strange. And as expected the temperature of the room dropped to almost zero degrees the moment they completed that statement. He sensed the anger of his Alpha and immediately shut his mouth, he had accidentally pushed a button he didn't even know was there.
'Endanger us', the Alpha thought and scoffed inwardly, his eyes turning to focus on his Beta.
"Alpha Feng I....", he tried to say something to hopefully rectify his previous blunder but when he saw the dark glow in his Alpha's eyes he knew, he was done for. Then all of a sudden the girl slowly opened her eyes and noticing an unfamiliar environment got up as fast as she could, turning the Alpha's attention back to the human.
Aiguo the Beta was at a loss for words when he looked at her face. It couldn't be her, could it? The woman who saved them all. The mistress of the Lui pack.
"Lady Li Jing?!", exclaimed Aiguo, shocking the girl in the midst of the both of them, now he understood the situation.
"Where. the. hell am I?!" she shouted startled at the unfamiliar environment. Too many things were running through her mind.
How did she get here? She had just been arguing with her sister moments ago and her Dad came and from there blank, come on remember, she held on to her head trying hard to remember but it was as if it had been wiped from her memory which was entirely foreign to her, she wasn't the forgetful type. She was utterly confused and her face was pale, her head was spinning.
Alpha Feng looked at her warmth filling his eyes, when he remembered all the bruises on her arms which triggered him because they looked like signs of abuse but he calmed down deciding to have them tend to her wounds.
"Aiguo, get the pack doctor here now", he ordered, and immediately the Beta dashed out to get the doctor. Then he faced the human, she seemed scared which stabbed at his heart a bit. She had never looked at him like that before but he managed to give her a small smile that flashed his perfect whites.
"Sit down", he said in a commanding voice with a hint of gentleness and like under a spell she sat down obediently.
"Good girl", he said and patted her head and they just stared at each other. After a while, the doctor walked in and he too was at a loss for words when he saw the lady but when he saw her bruises he got to treating it.
He applied an ointment on the bruises and offered her some medicine and water. She stared at the Alpha and he nodded his head lightly trying to assure her. To his surprise, she didn't argue and took the pill which put her to sleep. Once he checked her temperature and made sure she was sleeping soundly the pack doctor left.
Alpha Feng sat beside her and looked after her all night. She was finally back after waiting for so long and he wasn't going to let anything or anyone hear her this time around.
