Chapter 97: X-Men 1 Plot Begins

Alex gazed at Anna with a mixture of sympathy and determination, his eyes conveying a depth of understanding beyond mere words. "I understand your apprehension, Anna. The recent events have understandably left you guarded. But I'm not here to cause you harm. Quite the opposite, actually."

Anna remained wary, her guard still firmly in place. The memory of recent betrayals and manipulation lingered, making it difficult for her to trust anyone, especially a stranger claiming such extraordinary connections.

"I know it's hard to believe," Alex continued, his voice gentle yet earnest. "But we share a unique bond, one that transcends mere coincidence. I've felt your pain, your confusion. And I'm here to help."

The tension in Anna's expression softened ever so slightly, a flicker of curiosity sparking within her guarded demeanor. She watched cautiously as Alex extended his hand, a silent gesture of peace and understanding.

With a mixture of reluctance and curiosity, Anna allowed Alex to retrieve the key from her pocket, her eyes never leaving his face. As the key orbited around him, a tangible connection seemed to form between them, bridging the gap of uncertainty.

"It's not easy to accept," Alex admitted, his tone tinged with empathy. "But I assure you, we are more alike than you realize. And together, we can navigate the challenges ahead."

Anna's mind raced with conflicting emotions, torn between the instinct to flee and the faint glimmer of hope offered by Alex's words. She took a tentative step back, her muscles tense with apprehension.

But before she could make a decision, Alex spoke again, his voice laced with urgency. "Please, Anna. Hear me out. There's something you need to know."

Caught between curiosity and fear, Anna hesitated, her gaze locked with Alex's unwavering stare. Slowly, she nodded, a silent agreement to listen, if only for a moment longer.

As Alex reached out to touch her hand, Anna recoiled instinctively, her heart pounding with a primal fear of what might happen. But to her surprise, as Alex's hand made contact with hers, nothing extraordinary occurred.

Relief surged through Anna's veins, mingling with a newfound sense of curiosity. Could it be that Alex was speaking the truth? Was there truly more to their connection than she had previously dared to imagine?

With a cautious yet open mind, Anna allowed herself to entertain the possibility, understanding that the answers she sought lay just beyond the threshold of her own uncertainty.

"Why? Why didn't your memories and abilities get absorbed by me?" Anna looked at Alex, her expression a mix of confusion and intrigue.

"Heh, you underestimate me too much," Alex chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Absorbing the abilities of a first-level mutant when you're only at the fifth level? That's quite a stretch. And as for memories, it's even more improbable."

"Okay, take a breath and listen to me," Alex continued, adopting a gentle tone. "The reason you're experiencing this now is because the X-gene awakening in your body has granted you the ability to absorb the memories and abilities of others. This power is still new, and you haven't learned to control it yet. That's where I come in—I specialize in helping newly awakened mutants like yourself learn to control their abilities."

"Are you being truthful with me?" Anna's eyes sparkled with a mixture of hope and skepticism. It was a lot to take in, especially for a young girl.

"Absolutely," Alex affirmed with a warm smile, hoping to offer Anna some reassurance.

Guiding Anna to Charles, Alex said, "It's taken care of, Charles. Let's head back."

"Where are we going?" Anna asked, still looking somewhat bewildered.

"New York," Alex replied, and with a flicker, they teleported directly to the front of Xavier Manor on the outskirts of the city.

"I'll leave her in your capable hands. Now, I hope I can make it back in time for dinner," Alex said to Charles before disappearing once again.

"Come on, Anna. From now on, this will be your home and school. Everyone here is a Mutant, just like you," Charles said, smiling gently, as he led Anna into the school.

At the White House, Jean, dressed in a striking red dress and black-rimmed glasses, stood confidently on the podium.

"Ladies and gentlemen, mankind is facing another stage of evolution. Variations mostly occur in adolescence and are induced by emotional ups and downs," she explained, shedding light on the emergence of Mutants with a touch of sophistication in her delivery.

"Thank you, Miss Jean. Your speech is quite enlightening, but you've strayed from the theme of this meeting: 'Is Mutant dangerous?'" Congressman Kelly voiced his disapproval.

Jean, unfazed by the interruption, responded, "It's not appropriate for you to ask; some people get into car accidents when they drive."

"So, I have to get a driver's license," the congressman interjected.

"But there's no license for survival. Senator, the truth is, once a Mutant reveals their identity, it can spark panic, hostility, or even violence. To prevent Mutants from facing such animosity, I, Jean, appeal to cancel Mutant registration and the mandatory disclosure of Mutant identities..." Jean stood at the podium, attempting to continue speaking but was interrupted again by the congressmen below.

"Revealing their identity? Why hide? It's sneaky," Congressman Kelly said disdainfully.

"Congressman Kelly, didn't your mother teach you not to interrupt when others are talking?" Emma, sitting on the side, gazed coldly at Congressman Kelly and spoke.

Emma had become a national parliamentarian with the support of SHIELD and Stark Industries. In truth, Mutants had gained representation in the parliament, but the human side consistently outnumbered the Mutant side, and opposition to the Mutant registration policy remained strong and effective.
