The arrival of Wolverine and Yukio felt like the unraveling of a tangled thread, finally leading Max, Mariko's kidnapper!
A fiery-haired Yukio, donning Western-style boots, approached Mariko's side. In her hand, she held a gleaming katana. She stood protectively in front of Mariko, eyeing Max with concern and inquiring about Mariko's well-being. "Mariko, are you alright?"
Mariko nodded faintly.
"Let's get out of here!"
With Yukio guarding Mariko, they headed toward the exit. Meanwhile, Wolverine, with adamantium claws bared, kept a vigilant eye on Max.
Max didn't make any move to stop them.
It wasn't until both of them had disappeared through the door that Max rose to his feet and addressed the wounded Wolverine.
"I used to envy your ability to heal rapidly, to be fearless in the face of any injury, and never worry about death. But now, it's evident that fearlessness comes at a cost – it can make you forget to use your brain!"
"Yashita Ichiro was right in saying that you're nothing more than a weapon! Even if you're a weapon, you're a weapon that can be defeated!" Max added.
Wolverine stared at Max, his adamantium claws gleaming ominously.
"Aaaaa…" Wolverine sprang into action!
Max let out a long sigh on seeing this.
Despite being shot multiple times and having his healing ability suppressed, Wolverine's speed remained astonishing. In a single stride, he closed the distance between himself and Max, his steel claws aiming for Max's body.
Max didn't flinch; his gaze sharpened. Even with the healing ability suppressed and injuries, it was still Wolverine.
Max stood his ground, raised his hand, drew his gun, took aim, and fired.
The entire process took no more than a second. Just as Wolverine's steel claw was an inch away from him, a bullet struck Wolverine's left leg!
"Boom!"
The searing pain elicited a snarl from Wolverine, and his forward lunge slowed.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Without hesitation, Max continued to fire, each shot finding its mark on Wolverine's left leg. Soon, the leg was stained red with blood…
Wolverine clenched his teeth, his anger boiling over. He managed to steady himself and lunged at Max once more.
Max's eyes remained locked on those steel claws. As soon as they came within reach, he moved.
With a swift sidestep and a sudden crouch, Max narrowly avoided Wolverine's left-hand claw as it sliced through the air. The right-hand claw swept past, missing its target.
Max rose quickly, stepped forward, and his arm swung naturally as he delivered a powerful punch to Wolverine's face.
Wolverine turned slightly as the blow landed, but before he could react, another punch struck him squarely in the face.
Max swiftly discarded the firearm, immediately launching into a flurry of punches that targeted both sides of his opponent. These punches, executed with precision and speed, would leave an average person incapacitated. However, Wolverine, initially unfazed, eventually staggered under the relentless barrage.
With sudden agility, Max delivered a powerful kick, lightning-fast and striking with great force. Although Wolverine attempted to defend himself, the impact sent him hurtling into a nearby wall.
Remarkably, Max showed no signs of pain or hesitation. Retrieving another pistol from his waist, he aimed it at Wolverine's right leg, firing a series of shots.
The sound of gunfire echoed in the room—boom, boom, boom! Though the pistol's rate of fire was not particularly high, each bullet found its mark on Wolverine's leg in rapid succession, each shot landing with pinpoint accuracy.
Finally, Wolverine could no longer withstand the relentless assault, and he fell to his knees.
Max's arms trembled slightly as he holstered the gun, inspecting his bloodied hands.
The frame of Wolverine's body was composed of adamantium, one of the most formidable metals in the Marvel universe. It made both inflicting and enduring pain an excruciating experience. Even with Wolverine's self-healing abilities suppressed, causing him pain and injury was challenging, let alone delivering a fatal blow.
Max glanced at his trembling arms and painful hands, a faint smile crossing his lips.
Despite Wolverine's loss of self-healing abilities, he still possessed formidable natural strength. Max felt a sense of satisfaction in the results he had achieved using his own skills.
"For now, let's call it a day. They should make their escape soon. Here's a friendly piece of advice – this isn't your fight. Stay out of it, and also... examine your heart," Max casually advised Wolverine.
"Do you think you've won?" Wolverine retorted, his wolf-like eyes filled with unyielding determination. With a fierce howl, he rose to his feet once more.
"Revolving door!"
Seeing Wolverine standing up, Max shook his head slightly and gave a soft command.
