Chapter 17: Explosion
"No, you don't understand! The portal will deteriorate immediately after you enter it and possibly kill you!" Reed shouted after him, having checked the machine.
"Fools!"
"I said stop, you fucking imbecile! Can't you see that clearly isn't the normal portal we created?" Richard shouted again.
While Richard and the rest tried to convince him to step back, the portal began sucking in various materials and objects from the machine.
It was moments like this that Richard hated being around main characters.
He couldn't stop the portal in any way; trying to destroy the machine would only lead to a faster deterioration of the portal and a possible explosion.
Considering the place behind the portal, Richard wanted to take his chances in convincing Doom not to get into it so they all could find a much safer way of containing the unstable portal.
Worse, he couldn't even macho his way out of this by simply taking Doom away from the portal.
He and the team had reasonably made the suit capable of boosting the physical prowess of its wearer simply because they didn't know what lay ahead of them in the other dimension.
Trying to force him back would only lead to a fight, and a fight would lead to destroying the machine, and that would lead to the machine and portal exploding.
"Issue an evacuation order now," Richard ordered as Queen hacked into the facility and immediately issued the evacuation order, and the various personnel in the building began clearing it.
"I'm on my way, Mother!" Doom shouted as he ignored all the calls and jumped into the portal.
As soon as he did so, he was immediately sent flying back as he smashed through several railings and finally into the control room above them.
That was the final ingredient in this weird cookout as the portal immediately increased the strength of its suction, sucking all the materials and parts of the machine.
Soon it finally folded into itself, but since Richard knew it wasn't done yet, he immediately jumped over the railing he was holding and glued himself to the wall of the platform he landed on.
"Find cover!" Richard shouted just a few seconds before the imploded portal exploded, spreading demonic and cosmic energy everywhere.
Richard couldn't keep up with anything that was happening as his entire body was sent flying through several thick pieces of machinery and railings.
He could smell roasted meat; his torso had a long pole sticking out of it, his right arm was gone, and his legs were misshapen.
"Stop... stop!" Richard continued shouting despite his critical condition as he used his remaining arm to hold his head.
The explosion was powerful for sure, but injuries no matter how fatal were hardly felt by Richard.
"Make it stop!" Richard screamed even more as massive amounts of information continued to bombard his mind.
He didn't know where this was from, but the information kept coming and coming. It felt like someone somewhere had opened some sort of tap in his mind, letting information flow endlessly without any form of rest.
[Body condition critical... Activating secondary brain... Regeneration in progress.] Queen's ever-present and calm voice resounded in Richard's head, but it was quickly drowned out by the information flow.
With Richard out of commission due to the pain from the headaches, Queen took over as she broke and pulled out the metal piece that had pierced through his body.
As soon as the metal piece was out of his body, Queen activated the nanocytes and began healing his body. His arm grew back, his legs returned back to normal.
The headaches reduced as the secondary brain came online. Its main purpose was to help Richard process the information he couldn't handle just in case he ever touched an immortal or something like that.
The secondary brain wasn't exactly secondary since it still worked with the brain. It was basically a set of nanocytes that helped to enhance his brain to a level enough to process trillions of exabytes each minute.
With its help, Richard could finally rest as he collapsed on the floor while the nanocytes did their thing.
"I hate this universe," Richard whispered while trying to catch his breath.
Finally turning his attention to the rest of the room, Richard found the rest of the team scattered all around the floor.
Reed could be seen stretched out all around the floor for some reason, Sue was nowhere to be seen, Ben, who followed Reed into the room, was buried under a pile of rubble.
Johnny was on fire at the center of the room, though unconscious.
He was the only thing in the room actually on fire. The explosion didn't cause any long-lasting fires that he could see.
Above all, he couldn't even see the cause of the entire incident, Doom. He may have been thrown further into the room again after the initial hit.
"Queen, scan the room and check for any other victims," Richard ordered as a small drone came out of his hand and flew into the air.
