Chapter 212: Chapter 212: Humanity

When Diana put on the helmet, she felt confused for a moment, and when she regained consciousness, she found herself in an unfamiliar place.

There were rows of tall bookshelves filled with books all around her.

Diana thought that it would take her a long time, even if she wanted to read them all.

Suddenly, the space in front of her trembled, and then Jack appeared in front of her.

"Everything you need to know is here," he said, gesturing around.

"From the age of the gods to how human civilizations grew and united."

"Here, you can find relevant recorded information."

Diana looked at the sea of books surrounding her and swallowed nervously.

She asked, "Where should I start reading?"

"We don't have that much time right now, and you should know,"

Jack nodded knowingly.

"Yes, we don't have much time, but you can read more later. Now, it's not the time for that."

He snapped his fingers, and the space around them instantly changed.

When it stabilized, Diana was shocked by what she saw.

"Oh no!"

In front of her, A modern factory was on fire, and thick black smoke rose into the sky, almost breaking through the clouds.

Many people were screaming and fleeing from the scene.

Strangely, some people in orange uniforms were going against the flow and running towards the factory.

This scene stunned Diana.

Even the best warriors in her Amazon tribe would not go near a fire like that. Fire has always been the most dangerous thing in nature.

Diana had no doubt that this fire could destroy the entire Themyscira.

But these people, who seemed weak, were brave enough to walk right into the danger without any hesitation.

"It's quite amazing, isn't it? They seem brave!"

Jack suddenly appeared beside her, his hands placed in his temple, looking at those brave people with deep respect.

"This is the future, a fire that happened in my country. In that accident, a lot of people died, and most of them were just ordinary people."

"Why don't they run?"

Diana voiced her confusion, looking at Jack.

"With such a powerful fire, ordinary people would not stand a chance unless the gods intervened."

"You are right, it is hard to put it out, but it is not impossible,"

Jack sighed deeply, his face filled with complicated emotions.

"In the end, this huge fire was put out, but it cost them their lives too. Almost none of the people you see here made it."

"In our eyes, they might not be gods, but they are more brave than those gods!"

He remembered the huge fire from his past life and the brave heroes who stood up to it.

They were the true heroes.

Diana was deeply shaken.

It almost changed the way she saw life. In her wisdom, the strong should protect the weak.

But now, she saw that these normal people were doing things that she, a weak person, would not dare to do.

Jack quickly looked at Diana's expression and could tell she had gotten the point.

He waved his hand, and the scene changed once again.

This time, they were inside a burning fire.

Diana saw two lonely figures on a strange tower in the middle of the raging flames.

They seemed to be manipulating something.

"This is another fire that will happen in the future. A massive explosion will happen in a facility storing a large amount of crude oil. They have to enter the deepest part of the exploding fire to shut off the valves of the leaking oil. If they fail to close the valves, the entire facility will be destroyed."

"The important plan is that to stop the oil leakage, they have to turn four valves, and each valve requires eight thousand turns. In other words, they have to turn thirty-two thousand times in this sea of fire."

Diana did not understand all of the terms, but that did not stop her from knowing them.

She looked in shock at the two people alone.

It was difficult for them to even take a single turn, but they had to continuously turn thirty-two thousand times.

Their fate seemed predictable.

Even though Diana knew it was a future image, she subconsciously wanted to go and help them.

But as soon as she took a step forward, the world around her changed again.

This time, it was a place where people were being helped after an earthquake.

Then it changed again, showing firefighters rushing out of a burning fire while holding burning gas canisters.

In the constantly changing scenes, Diana watched several touching videos that Jack had found on the internet.

In the end, she had tears running down her cheeks.

At that moment, she still held a naive belief that humans were inherently good, just like the Amazons.

These videos helped her see things even more clearly.

Indeed, how could such kind-hearted humans engage in war?

It must be the schemes of Ares.

But why did Jack show her all this?

It was only to prepare her for what was to come.

"Diana,"

He gently held her shoulders, looking into her eyes with a pained expression.

"Listen, the purpose of showing you these videos isn't to make you believe that humans are all good. It's just... I don't want you to lose complete faith in them."

"Perhaps you won't believe what I say now, but I hope that when you discover that humans aren't as good as you imagined, you can think back to what you saw today."

"Humans aren't as good as you imagine, but they're not as bad either. There are things in life worth sacrificing everything to protect."

Diana seemed to understand what he said, but she was still slightly taken aback.

Still, Jack's words stayed with her for a long time.

When Ares eventually revealed the true nature of humanity to her, she wouldn't be too devastated.

If necessary, Jack didn't want her to know this, but she would eventually live in the world of humans.

Instead of letting her struggle and suffer alone, it was better to explain things to her in advance.

Diana wasn't sure if she fully understood, but she nodded dazedly and turned back to watch the shifting images.

Jack wasn't sure if Diana truly understood, but he had no other choice.

Outside, Jack opened his eyes and glanced at Diana, who was still engrossed in the videos.

He got up and walked to the cabin, where he found Steve sitting around doing nothing.

"Hey, Steve," he said, reaching out his hand without hesitation.

"Give me the notes you took from Doctor Poison."

"What?"

Steve was taken aback, then realized it and looked at Jack with disbelief.

"How did you know?"

He instinctively covered the pocket on his chest, where the notes from Dr. Poison's experiments were kept.

And he hadn't mentioned the notes to anyone since the beginning, so how did Jack know?

"Do not waste time with talk that is not needed. If you want to figure out how to read the notes, give them to me."

Jack's tone revealed impatience.

If it weren't for Steve's somewhat good person, he wouldn't have been so polite.

Steve was startled by Jack's words, but he still nodded.

"Of course!"

He had looked at the notes many times but couldn't decipher them. It would take time, and time was what they lacked.

With a confirmation, Jack smirked, nodded, and casually tossed the notes to Steve before turning to leave.

Steve was utterly bewildered, looking at the notes.

He subconsciously opened them, and the next second, his eyes widened in shock.

The previously mysterious and indecipherable text in the notes had changed into familiar English.

Moreover, at the end of the notes, there was a chemical equation listed.

According to the notes, it seemed to neutralize the preceding toxic gas.
