Chapter 014
Hell's kitchen was full of gangs and one of them was the Russians. The Russian mafia was one of the major players in New York crime scene and often worked with the Kingpin.
Their most recent activities was human trafficking and selling drugs.
Even tonight, they were doing the same thing. They had planned to beat up Steven, a factory worker that had failed to pay back his debts and kidnap his son for trafficking.
It was a fairly easy job which didn't require a large number of people.
That's why, only two of the lowest ranked members of the gang were out to do the job and it was also going fairly well.
If they can finish the job early, they can easily report it to their boss and leave early to have fun with one of the strippers in the newly opened nightclub in West Manhattan.
But they didn't know that they would come across a high schooler who was having his first day as a crime fighting vigilante.
"Let's finish him up quickly and leave."
"Yeah."
Both the Russian gangsters kicked the man who was already bleeding from several places. His son watched in horror, blood flowing down from his head.
Despair and horror filled his heart as he felt like he and his dad would die today.
At that moment, the kid saw something.
It looked like a person – More like a shadow with his black clothes and mask. He was watching the gangsters with a conviction in his eyes.
'Help... Please help...'
The kid wanted to mutter but no word came out of his dry throat. But it seemed like the masked man understood what he was trying to say as he nodded his head towards him.
'Please...'
The kid blinked his eyes and suddenly, the masked man was gone.
A voice, relatively young, sounded out next.
"Yo mates, don't you think you two belong to a club or something at this time of the night. I guess, a prison won't be worse either."
"What?"
Both the Russians were surprised by the presence of someone else and they both turned around. But before they could point out what was happening, one of the Russians was taken out by a kick.
He crashed into the wall as his partner came face to face with Alex.
"Who are you?" He asked as he moved his hands to punch Alex.
"Before asking that, you should start to brush daily. You stink!"
He dodged the punch by crouching his head and kicking at the Russian's legs. But before Alex knew it, a blow was already there on his shoulder.
A grunt escaped his mouth as the Russian smirked at him.
"You are not used to this, huh."
Ignoring his words, Alex curled his hand into a fist and punched. For the next few seconds, a series of blows were exchanged which left both the Russian and Alex panting.
'I never thought it would be this hard.'
Alex cursed at his past self for thinking that it would be easy.
The Russian gangster has years of fighting experience and he was a veteran of street fighting while Alex was still a newbie, relying on his powers.
Halfway through the fight, he soon realised that he could even lose this fight.
Most of his attacks were blocked and it was only because of his flexibility skill that he was able to dodge some of the lethal attacks.
It actually became worse when the Russian gangster who Alex had knocked out, woke up and rushed at him with a knife.
The knife stabbed as Alex cried out in pain.
"You are going to die today."
The Russian gangster grunted as he plunged a knife in Alex's shoulder.
Alex held the Russian's hand, trying to force him away. But the situation was just getting worse for Alex. Dealing with two gangsters was certainly not something easy for him.
'I will really die like this.'
Alex frowned inwardly as his eyes suddenly changed his colour.
The two gangsters noticed it and wondered what was going on, but before they could do anything, something leapt at him like a lightning bolt.
A dark energy filled the surroundings as both the gangsters got knocked out on the wall, the shock making them unconscious.
The last thing they saw was a wolf's figure and a sharp desire to kill leaking out from it.
"Ahh... I thought... I will die."
Alex plunged to the ground as everything went serene. He called his wolf back and took deep breaths, calming his heart down from all the alderline.
Then, he took out the knife from his shoulder, the process making him cry out in pain once again.
'I acted like an idiot. These gangsters aren't mobs. I'm the mob.'
Alex thought back to his fight as his body screamed with pain. But it wasn't the time for reflections.
His hero duty wasn't over.
He glanced towards the unconscious man that the gangsters were beating and the kid that was looking at him, his eyes a mix of fear and awe.
Walking towards the man slowly, Alex checked his pulse.
"Is my dad alive?" The kid asked slowly.
"Yes, his pulse is running. But not for long. We have to get him to the hospital. Do you know the nearest hospital here?"
"There's one that is near."
"Help me get there."
Alex said as he picked up the man on his shoulder. It was hard to handle his height in this state but he had to do it as it was his duty.
"Are you okay, kid?"
"Yes, I'm fine." The kid said before asking. "What about you, mister?"
"I'm fine. Will be fine."
Alex started walking as the kid led the way. He was rushing as the man had already lost quite a bit of blood.
From time to time, the kid would sneak a look at Alex. His eyes were full of worry for his father but he wasn't able to hide his curiosity about Alex either.
In the end, he couldn't help but ask.
"Are you a superhero?"
Alex thought a bit before replying, "Just an idiot trying to be one."
"What's your name?"
"You can call me... Lycan."
