Chapter 28: Another One

Until dawn, I kept training my Strength by lifting the heaviest objects I could get my hands on. It was sitting at 37 when I finished.

Strength was the hardest physical stat for me to increase. If I had to guess, I had a debuff modifier or something, but that wouldn't stop me from doing my best to grind it.

During my training, I constantly made a clone to keep reading the books I got from the Ancient One. There was a particular collection of them, five volumes long, that I was very interested in, Enchanting.

This was a must-have for me as I wanted to create a lot of stuff in the future. The clone had read them over and over, making sure I had them memorized from the first word to the last.

Enchanting was normally hard to learn unless you were a broken character that had Allspeak. Since the skill involved the usage of runes, which was a language on its own, I had no problem understanding them.

A bit before everyone had woken up, and while I was cooking breakfast, I pulled out the sword I had in my Inventory. It was a simple common drop that I got from the Legion Zombie with no special properties.

I urged the mana inside me to follow my command as I started inscribing a rune to increase the sharpness of the sword. My first attempt was a failure, the rune didn't stick to the sword, and the mana I used dissipated into the air.

That didn't discourage me, and I tried again. Another two tries later, and I got the hang of it, managing to inscribe the rune onto the sword successfully.

[Through a specific action, the skill, Enchanting, has been created.]

[Enchanting(Active) Lvl. 1/100: Through the usage of a specific language, the user is able to bestow objects with various magical effects. The user can currently enchant an item only once with a weak enchantment. The user can currently apply only one rune at a time.]

My eyes lit up. If I was able to enchant something once at level 1, did that mean I will be able to enchant an object 100 times at max level? I hoped so!

I pulled out a few bones that the skeletons dropped. I had picked them up with the intention of maybe trying to make something of them, but I had a better use for them now.

I started inscribing a rune for durability on them one by one, and my skill leveled up.

[Enchanting increased to 2.]

I checked the skill immediately and felt like crying. I was still only able to enchant an item once. Why do you do this to me? I wanted to make Godly items by enchanting them 100 times! It would've been awesome!

While muttering how stingy my ability was, I went to wake up Kurt.

I knocked on his door. "Get up. Breakfast is ready, and we have to leave in half an hour."

"5 more minutes!" I heard Kurt say.

"Your food will go cold by the time you come down," I warned him. The bacon and eggs were certainly not going to wait for him, and I just might end up eating them. My food just tastes that good now.

"5 more minutes and I don't eat breakfast," Kurt said, and I shrugged my shoulders. That's his loss.

I then helped grandma down to the kitchen. She was an early riser and was already up.

My food disappeared in seconds, and I reached towards the plate with the food for Kurt. Grandma, however, stopped me.

"You made those for Kurt," she said.

"But he said he doesn't want breakfast," I said.

"I'm sure he will change his mind," grandma said. That was grandma for you, she won't let anyone leave the house without having a full belly.

"Fine," I relented.

Kurt shortly came down, his nose sniffing the air as his eyes zeroed down on the eggs and bacon. With an absentminded, "Good Morning," he sat down and ate them in seconds.

Grandma smiled at me with a look that clearly meant, "I told you so."

"Zat was great! Zank you!" Kurt said to my grandma.

"No need to thank me, Will was the one that made breakfast," grandma said with pride.

Kurt looked at me, the clogs in his head slowly moving in the early morning. In a moment, his eyes narrowed, probably realizing that I had a skill for that as well. I just kept a smug look on my face. Yeah, I'm awesome!

We packed our stuff and left for school, with Kurt muttering how broken I am on the way as if I didn't know that already.

I was on the verge of becoming level 50, and it has only been about half a month since I got my power. I also had so many skills to my name, I could put other mutants to shame.

"Cheating bastard, you can train to increase your stats, and you can level up and increase your stats. I vant that too!" Kurt protested quietly.

"But you can do that," I said.

"Really?" Kurt asked, his eyes lighting up with hope.

I patted him on the shoulder. "With enough hard work, you can achieve anything."

All I got for my encouraging words was the profanities he sent my way. Tsk, tsk, tsk, that's what you get for trying to encourage your friends.

Afterward, Kurt started complaining about how we had a Physics test first thing in the morning and how he wasn't prepared for it.

"I can help you with that," I suddenly said.

"How? Ve don't sit next to each ozer," Kurt said, and I tapped my head.

"Telepathy," I said.

And Kurt started cussing me again for being broken.

However, being on the topic of Telepathy, reminded me that Kurt, nor Peter can protect themselves from mental attacks. That was something that I had to help them with, and I had the perfect solution for it, Enchantment.

Unfortunately, there was a very small problem. There wasn't a rune specifically for mental resistance. They were two separate runes, one for mental and one for resistance. I would have to use both, which meant that I needed to raise my skill as soon as possible.

I also need to get them an item they can easily wear, but I figured a simple ring would do, I just had to buy one.

The Physics test was a simple matter for me. With my high mental stats, I had no problem passing it, and I also helped Kurt using Telepathy.

[Telepathy increased to 8.]

I even got a level out of it. Hell, yeah, never stop grinding!

We left the classroom in good moods. I was happy that I got a skill level while Kurt was pleased that he didn't even have to use his brain.

No more than a moment after we left the classroom, I felt a pair of hands wrap themselves around my waist.

"Hey," I heard Jean call from behind me.

Kurt was moving his eyes from Jean to me so fast, I was scared he might snap his neck.

In a moment, Jean released me and walked up beside me. She then whispered, "Telepathy."

I activated my skill and felt her connect with me.

'Hey,' I heard her in my mind.

'Hello, I didn't expect to see you here.'

'Did you not want to see me?' Jean accusingly asked me.

Of course, I wanted to see you, and I'm more than happy that you are here.

I felt a pleasant emotion from her, clearly pleased by my answer.

'I spent a month with Agna, and I have a better control over my powers. She said it was fine for me to come to school,' Jean said, and I noticed the text above her.

[<Host of the Phoenix Force> Jean Grey Lvl. 95]

She got stronger again! Damn, she's awesome!

An embarrassed emotion came from her, as she said. 'I also wanted to see you.'

I felt my heartbeat increase tenfold. It felt so nice to be wanted. 'Me too.'

Mental conversations happen a lot faster than normal ones, and I saw her smile brightly at me. Jean then sheepishly wrapped her hands around my arm as we continued on our way.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw Kurt's eyes nearly popping out of their sockets. He was more than surprised, and he wasn't the only one.

Everywhere we passed, the other students stopped what they were doing and stared at Jean and me blankly. She had denied all of the most popular boys in school, and all of a sudden, she is holding the arm of someone they've probably never heard off. This information will spread like wildfire, I was sure of that.

During our walk, I kept my posture straight and took each step with confidence.

'Are you okay?' I asked Jean, who felt embarrassed, but she did not let go of my arm.

'Mostly, I still get a bit emotional from time to time, but I'm a lot better now,' Jean said and tightened her grip on my arm.

'Will you be staying at Kamar-Taj?' I asked. I didn't think there was any chance of her staying at Xavier's mansion.

'No, I will be staying in the New York Sanctum from now on, so I can be in the city. I can also quickly go to Kamar-Taj if I need to through the gateway in the Sanctum,' Jean said.

That was great to hear. It meant we can get to see each other more often. That was apparently the correct thought as I felt a happy emotion coming from Jean.

'Yes, you idiot. That was the correct thought!' Jean said, and I felt like she mentally slapped me. Was that even a thing?

'Yes, it is,' she confirmed. 'I'm going to have to teach you a lot about Telepathy.'

Yes, please!

[Telepathy increased to 9.]

When we reached the place we usually spend our breaks at, Kurt asked. "Are you two..."

"Yes," Jean said, and I was over the moon from that answer. I felt like the luckiest guy on Earth.

Speaking of luck. "Hey, do you want to go to the arcade after school?"

I can spend time with both of them, have fun, and also grind my Luck stat.

'You have a Luck stat? How does that work?' Jean asked.

'It makes me luckier?' I said. I wasn't exactly sure how that one works, but I will find out after that stat passes 50. The skills I've received so far directly buffed what the stats already did.

'Is that even a thing?' Jean asked with surprise.

'Apparently so.'

They both agreed since I also promised to pay for the tokens. It's not like money really mattered to me.

School continued on, and I spent almost the entire time talking with Jean mentally. My Telepathy skill rose, and she even gave me a few basic lessons on it. My girlfriend is the best!

During the breaks, I heard everyone discussing Jean and me. However, no one came to talk or ask us questions, except during lunch when Scott walked up to us while glaring daggers at me.

"Jean, can we talk for a moment?" Scott asked.

"Sure," Jean said, not moving from her spot from right next to me.

"Just the two of us," Scott said.

"We can talk here," Jean said.

Scott took a deep breath and said quietly. "You are being manipulated by him!"

Obviously, he meant me.

However, he used the wrong word. Since I was still connected with Jean mentally, I felt her about to explode. She was ready to send him on a trip around the world.

I had to do my best to calm her down and make sure she doesn't kill him. I did succeed in convincing her that using her powers here was not a good idea.

Jean angrily said, "No, Summers, you are being manipulated." She then stood up, grabbed my arm, and pulled me away.

Scott was beet red and fuming with anger, but he didn't say another word.

By the end of school, my Telepathy increased even more as I learned how to effectively hug someone mentally. I did manage to calm Jean down with that and lift up her mood.

When we finished, we quickly left and made our way towards the arcade. We all had fun, but I was the only one grinning like a fool. How could I not when my luck increased by 9. A few more visits to the arcade, and it will pass 50, awarding me with a new skill.

Kurt then left for my house while I escorted Jean to the Sanctum. On the way, we conversed mentally, and I learned a lot of things about her. Like the fact that she grew up in Connecticut, she had a sister, who wasn't a mutant, and that her family was quite religious, but she wasn't.

I didn't leave after we reached the Sanctum, but I entered inside with her. The place was big, and we found an empty room to spend some time together, enjoying each other's company.

I left the Sanctum with my Kissing up a few levels and returned home. I made some food for Kurt and Grandma before helping her go to bed and giving her a massage.

With that done, it was time for me to start working on my Strength stat. For the entire night, I worked like a madman, and about 5 AM, I finally passed the 50 mark.

[Skill, Pink Muscles, has been created as Strength passed 50.]
