Chapter 47: The Rightful Bride

Matteo's POV

My lips curled into a thin smile as I drummed my fingers on the desk, whisky in hand. I took a deep breath, my mind filled with thoughts of Leila and my son.

A few minutes later, a soft knock resounded from the door. I took a long sip from the whisky before heaving out a long sigh.

“Come in.”

I listened to the door creaking open and the soft footsteps of my beta.

“Alpha,” he greeted. I turned and acknowledged his presence.

“Thank you for your patience, Oliver. You have been more than just a beta. You’re also my friend.”

The latter blinked. I chuckled, pulling out a second glass from the drawer of my desk. It has been a long time since the last time we had a drink together. The guilt ate at me from the inside.

“Is something the matter, Alpha?”

I chuckled, shaking my head as I poured him some whisky.

“Well, I am not too sure how I will respond to that,” I answered, bringing him the glass and clinking my own with him.
