Chapter 42: Repercussions

Maurice’s POV

"What will you name your daughter?"

I watched my sister's eyes light up, and her cheeks turn rosy. She was so full of life, always bouncing with giddy enthusiasm despite everything going on around her.

"Leila," she whispered, rubbing her growing belly as she looked at me with excitement. "I'll name her Leila."

I blinked back tears as I approached my sister's grave. It appeared that someone had beat me to remembering her a little extra today. There were two fresh baskets of flowers situated beside the tombstone.

With a long, sad sigh, I forced a smile, slowly lowering the bouquet of flowers I got for her earlier this morning.

I had planned to take Leila with me, but she came off a lot later than I expected, looking bewildered. I thought it would be better not to ask and let her sleep beside her son.
