Chapter 15: Eavesdrop

Matteo’s Pov

‘Why did she have to be so goddamn beautiful?’

I had to remind myself to stop stealing glances at Leila. But granted that she had an irresistible charm; it was impossible not to look.

Partly, I was relieved when she left the room, but with her absence, a desire to find her and see if she was all right made it difficult for me to sit still.

The minute she left the dining hall, I suddenly felt suffocated. I couldn’t stop looking at the double doors, subtly hoping she would return.

“Babe—” Elsie’s voice jerked me out of my thoughts.

I turned to her, annoyed for some reason.

“What?” I half growled, keeping my tone low.

She must have picked up on my terrible mood, her fingers brushing my arm. This should have enticed me and let her keep going. However, I found my hand grabbing hers, halting her from continuing.
