CHAPTER 36

Kreegan knew Lex's mechanical prowess was high, but he never thought the ship could transform into a submarine.

"How are we going to breathe underwater?"

"I couldn't find a way to hold enough air in the ship yet."

He turned to Kreegan and repeated himself encouragingly.

"I couldn't find it yet! So, I had to use a more primitive method. Use that and tell me what you see."

"Is that a fucking periscope?"

Kreegan pulled the periscope down and started looking out, and he saw a little blue buoy. It was the same color as the water and was really hard to spot.

"I used a buoy, a few meters of hose and connected those to an air pump to provide air to the ship. Because of the air problem, we can't dive deeper than 15 meters. Max travel distance is 150 km. After that, the coal will run out."

"Distance between the islands cannot be the real reason people don't use steamships, and that is ridiculous."

Kreegan thought on his previous world; people used steamships to travel between England and USA. If he were to compare the distance to this planet, it would be like from Goa Kingdom to Syrup Village. It was a massive distance, but they could still use the steamships. Even the smallest steamships were not being used here. There must be another reason.

"It looks like you are not as naive as I thought."

"Fuck you, Lex."

"Yes, there is a bigger reason, Sea Kings. Those beast gets taunted by the sounds the engines make, and in my opinion, World Government don't want to admit that they can't keep these animals under control, so they're citing a secondary reason as the real reason.

"Doesn't that mean we are in danger now?"

"No, I have invented a machine that uses sound waves to map out the sea around us. If I see something big coming toward us, I will just kill the engine."

Kreegan's mouth nearly fell to the ground; he knew that in this world, there were cyborgs, robots, and super weapons, but real engineers and scientists were very rare. This guy here might be a real genius. Considering the scientific state of East Blue, it would be like inventing submarines and sonar in the sixteenth century.

...

After getting over the shock, they were waiting for it to get dark. Kreegan had a general knowledge of what this planet was like, so his experiences didn't affect him for long. While one side of the planet was using a kerosene lamp, on the other side, a long-eared friend was going to reach the moon via a propeller ship. With a fucking propeller ship, he traveled to the moon, which was canon. Kreegan thought, welcome to wacky land.

"Aren't you going to bring the ship to the surface?"

"No."

"How are we going to reach the Island then?"

"We are going to swim. Actually, you are going to swim and pull me. Now I know you can swim; we can use the diving room."

"Of course, we can."

After Lex donned what looked like a life jacket, he tethered himself to Kreegan and plunged into the water.

...

Kreegan continued to swim, dragging Lex, who was as still as a log, and Lex, who was able to keep his head above the water thanks to the vest he was wearing, had reached the shore without any problems. As the ship was at a depth of 15 meters and near the island, they were able to anchor to the seabed. After a few minutes of swimming, they reached the shore.

After coming out of the water, Lex, who was starting to regain his senses, rose from the sand, and the two of them began to climb the island's steep cliffs. This time it was Kreegan who took advantage of the tether. When Lex switched to half-beast mode, he had the ability to climb smoothly, thanks to the claws on his feet and hands. They finally reached the top after climbing the cliff, which exceeded 30 meters.

When they reached the top, they understood why this island was not used because there was not a pinch of dirt on the surface. The island consisted entirely of rocks carved and shaped by the wind and the sea. Moving silently through the cliffs, the two continued toward the direction of the fissure.

As they approached the fissure, they noticed that there were guards at the edge of the rift. When they got a little closer, they noticed that there were guards every 50-100 meters apart, but they thought that they wouldn't be able to place guards all over this huge crevice and headed further. Their thinking turned out to be correct, and they were able to look into the fissure using a hollow ledge under the cliff at the tip of the island.

What they saw was very surprising because there weren't only 50 ships inside. They had built a town here. There were more than 100 small buildings here. They were not living on their ships. In the middle of the 50 ships, they could see Don Krieg's ship, the Dreadnaught Saber. This ship was a giant four-masted ship, and it was five times bigger than Tora One.

Kreegan immediately sent a message to Smoker, and they headed toward the island's southwest edge. Here they set up camp among the rocks and began to watch the sea. Now they have to wait for two weeks for Smoker to come.

They had already packed some emergency supplies, but this would not be enough for them, so they had to go to the ship and get more supplies. Of course, they could wait in the ship, but if they did that, they wouldn't be able to climb the cliffs in time to reach Don Krieg before Smoker. They have to attack them the second the Navy ships are seen on the horizon.

...

Smoker was in the open sea and was returning from a pirate suppression. The captain entered his room and had just put his feet on the table and closed his eyes to get some rest when Tashigi suddenly burst in with a message in his hand.

"He found them."

Smoker couldn't understand who had found what at first, but he began to think about what could possibly make Tashigi so happy.

"I told you he would be successful."

At this, he realized who she was talking about and turned his hand to smoke, snatching the message in Tashigi's hand. She immediately read the message and turned to Tashigi.

"Immediately turn our heading towards these coordinates and bring me a map."

After looking at the map, he realized it would take them only six days to reach their hideout. He had ten ships with him and pulled all the patrolling ships, too. With them, he had 18 marine warships.
