Chapter 1: Albedo

In another universe with different laws of science, there is a world similar to ours called Gaia. Pretty much another version of Earth. Laws of science is almost the same too with the only difference is the existence of magic.

In a timeline much similar to the medieval times in our history, there is a young man with a body all pale. From both the tip of his fingers and toes up to his long hair, he's all white. His clothes are old fashioned but luxurious, resembling a royal sage. The clothes were also white with golden accessories. You could've mistaken him as an elf in fantasy stories, but he is purely human.

The boy who seems to be around 17 years old based on his height, is walking on a road in a rich city named Majarlica. The city is a capital of the currently most powerful kingdom called Agham.

As the boy continued down the road, the less crowded it gets. It is a street where the lower class people resided, where most crimes happen.

He then entered a tavern mostly visited by fierce looking mercenaries who are looking for generously paying commissions, though are barely legal. These certain mercenaries are called "shadow mercenaries", they are mercenaries that works anonymously.

The young man tried to blend in by ordering a drink, a glass of milk (he is underaged). Despite his attempts, his smooth skin and skinny body said otherwise.

One of the customers asked: "You seemed to be lost, brat. This is not the place for pampered nobles." The man's words seems to be a little aggressive, as he's just one of the many people who hates the nobles of this city.

The pale kid replied: "I think you're mistaken, sir. I'm not actually a noble, I just found these clothes in the dumpster outside the gates of a huge mansion." He said nervously followed by a nervous laugh.

The owner of the tavern then said: "Stop scaring the kid. You might not be familiar of him since you're new here but this child is actually polite and disciplined (although I am not sure if he's a noble either, he doesn't talk too much unless you approached him first)."

The tavern owner is named Kupard Carith, popularly known as Kupkop around these parts. A muscular middle-aged man with a few scars on his face. Despite his appearance, he's is a kind person, which is why he earned his wacky nickname.

Kupkop: "Cali may not look like it but he too is a regular mercenary, and the kind that one should not underestimate."

Cali The Kinless, the name of the pale kid who is the main character of this story. A child that is weak in physical and magical capabilities. He is assumed to be "Manaless" (people who are born not capable of using magic). Regardless, he was able to complete past bounty commissions quite well, but no one knows how.

Kupkop: "Anyway, it seems like a new client is here."

The hunters started to cloak their faces with mask and hood for anonymity. The hidden identity relation of client and hunters is the reason why this business is still alive.

Anonymous hooded man: "I am here to ask for private help, we will pay you mercenaries with quite a fortune if this one goes perfectly well."

One of the mercenaries asked: "What kind of task would you give us that you would pay such riches for?"

Another man replied: "I'm guessing it's something like a suicide mission. I'm warning the rest of the hunters on taking this one but, first of all lets listen to what he has to say."

Hooded man: "It's to rescue a little girl... from a neighboring terrorist country Victland."

Most of the mercenaries turns around and stopped listening, showing they're not interested. They are not dumb, they might not be officially professionals but they have seen the cruelty of the world enough to know to be wary. They are mercenaries all along, they risk their lives for a living.

The mercenary replied: "Count us out then. We're not some pawns to be sent just to die."

The hooded man was about to leave the tavern but another man replied: "I'll accept it." The voice came from the aggressive dude who hates noble for some reason.

Aggressive dude: "I'll rescue the brat."

He is a rookie, and seem to be a little stupid. He has a body of a 20 years old man, sure he could be strong and healthy but the mercenaries with bigger bodies refused the offer, what could be the reason why he accepted it? Most likely his pride.

The hooded man was skeptical of his abilities but he replied: "Thank you! A help would be much appreciated!" Based on the hooded guy's desperation, it looks like he's about to get executed by his master if no one accepted their commission.

Kupkop: "Are you insane?! This is obviously a suicide quest!"

Aggressive dude: "Relax, old man. I am Prince from the family of Rurian, so there is nothing to worry about." He said in a rising tone.

Mercenary A: "Is he a big shot? (He is kinda stupid though)."

Mercenary B: "You dont know him?! Actually, me neither."

Prince: "You all just watch as I become a famous and rich mercenary, you bunch of cowards!"

Mercenary B: "He completely missed the point of this business. We're not supposed to be famous." He said while face palming.

Cali: "I'm joining him. I'll accept the commission too."

Kupkop: "Cali, I know your past commissions are all successful but you might not be lucky this time." He said, whispering.

Cali: "You have nothing to worry, Mr.Kop. I will come tonight for another glass of milk."

Kupkop sighs and replied: "Never betray my trust on you kid, you should come back later."

The two young men left the tavern and gone to the nearest terminal for carriages. They paid for an expensive carriage but fast carriage. With an average horse carriage, it would take them a whole day just to get there. But with a powerful horse, it would only take them two hours. (powerful horse meant powerful in magical capabilities. animals could use magic in order to enhance their bodies). Cali told the coachman where they are going. He was about to deny the offer for a good reason of his safety, but Cali promised to pay extra and the coachman got greedy.

Prince: "Brat, do you even have an idea where to find the girl?"

Cali: "I have my way."

They got in the carriage and continued on their way. hours passed and its finally afternoon, they finally arrive in the country of Victland. It was a land popular for their skilled Rogues

Rogue Magicians are the type of people who possess the magic with combat abilities specializing in speed for offensive purposes.

Anyone who can use magic are called magicians, but the type of magic they possess varies to what they are born with. There are five different types of magic, these are the Warrior Class, Rogue Class, Ranger Class, Arch Mage, and Defender Class Magic. Magicians apparently can only use one type of magic.

The countrymen are also known to have a deep grudge against the kingdom of Agham because of their past. It was a small and poor country. Most of its areas are slums. The houses are made out of stones, indicating it used to be a wealthy country in the past.

The two saw a lady.

Cali: "Im just gonna ask her for information, just wait here."

As Cali approaches, the woman flinches. Prince found this to be funny so he chuckled. The lady appears to be kind and they have no problems in the conversation. Cali returned and said: "She said she's held hostage in Victland Castle. She knows of this because the army generals announced about this a few days ago, as if its a country's big achievment."

Prince: "I know our client's identities are supposed to be hidden but the more we look into this, the more I get curious just who is this girl."

Cali: "Lets just wait until the night falls before we sneak in the castle."

Prince: "Im surprised you're still not backing out on this quest. Heck you dont even seemed to be nervous. Were literally sneaking in a castle! We will be killed once we are caught!" He screamed on his face.

Cali: "I could say the same to you."

Prince: "I have my reasons, dont ask about it."

It is finally night time, and the two headed in the castle. It has hundreds of soldiers in it so of course they were easily found out. Cali raises his hand towards the guard like he has some 8th grade syndrome, then the soldiers suddenly fell paralyzed. Prince was surprised of what he is seeing, got even more confused the more he wonder what is going on. He might not be educated but he knows this isnt something a magician could normally do, let alone a manaless person.

Cali: "Lets go in the castle."

Prince followed while still thinking about it. They explored almost all of the castle, while paralyzing the guards they encounter. They might not be exactly sneaking around, but atleast it works. Prince finally found the lady who appears to be a teenage girl, similar to Cali's age. Prince, who is a Warrior type magician (A type of magician who can infuse their own body with magic to strengthen or toughen their physical body), is the one more capable of destroying a cage between the two of them, but that doesnt mean he can. Then suddenly without any warning, Cali raised his hand and pointed towards Prince, the same way he did to the guards. At that moment Prince realised that Cali to him is nothing more than a mysterious kid with unknown origins, intentions, and power, yet he followed him blindly. Prince feared for his life.

"Emotions are what guides us on how we act and think as natural beings. It could be beneficial or a problem depending on your outlook. Although most of the time its a problem, and sometimes a very bad problem at that. In this age of peace and philosophy, we no longer need these guides now that we can think for ourselves. I believe human emotions shouldn't exist." –Emperor Makali Albedo

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

I believe the main purpose of the protagonists is to learn a lesson from them. They themselves dont have to be righteous people, as long as the moral of their story is right.
