Chapter 82: She Kissed Him, Then

"Hey!" Nate hastily caught her fatigued body before she hit the ground and cracked her skull or something.

Keira didn't respond. She merely curled in herself, hard asphalt under her, forehead against the stolen car's body. Sobbing uncontrollably, unable to say something. 

"You're fine," he said, hands on her upper arms, warm and heavy. Comforting.

She didn't look up, feeling him closer than ever. He tucked her in, head against his shoulder. Stilted, ragged breaths sent hot air to his neck. 

All she could do was clutching on the front of his shirt. 

"You're fine," he said again. Softer this time. A rarity because he was so used to being teasing – infuriating. 

"You will be fine," was repeated, with one hand rubbing her back. Reminding her that he was there. For her, because it was all for her.

He went on this road trip – for her.
