​​Cas felt delusional with happiness. Maybe that delusion opened a gate to doubt.

He walked with shoulder brushing Mingan’s in their wolf forms again, and he was mostly sure they were walking in the right direction, but he couldn’t help but wonder if he was betraying Ara. He thought only she could make him feel like the luckiest male in Birchwoods, and when she died, he promised himself to never be so happy with anyone else. So…was he breaking his promise to her as a fated soulmate to not love as thoroughly as he and Ara of the Rainstorm pack once did?

‘Cas,’ Mingan’s voice hissed through the mind link. ‘I mean—Alban!’

‘State your business, you two!’

Cas jerked out of the daze to see a Crescent Epsilon sentry in his wolf form trotting toward them with hackles raised. He scented Luan’s scent-marking and Mingan stopped him inches away. Thank the Moon Goddess, because otherwise, this Epsilon would have reason to attack.
