Shani stared after the Whitecrown male—Alban—as he fled further into the forest. His appearance and oddly personal words left her stunned, so much so that she forgot to feel crippling horror at her father’s announcement.

She wondered how stupid she must have looked staring at him. It wasn’t because she recognized him, as he was clearly disappointed that she didn’t, but because she was struck by his beauty. It was rare that she spoke with Whitecrown pack members, much less see one up close, and…Moon Goddess, help her, he made her speechless.

And what he said… “You are stronger than your misfortune. By whatever means, make fortune.”

But what did they mean, exactly? And who was he? Why did he seem to care so much? Where did they even meet and when? It had to be at a Midmoon, but how long ago? Shame on her for forgetting a face like that.
