Chapter 10: A surprise.
Babe's phone buzzed, and he saw the name he'd saved for his boss flash across the screen. With a small grin, he picked it up.
"Hey, you busy?" the boss's voice was smooth and direct, like always.
"Depends," Babe teased, already feeling the anticipation building in his chest. "Why?"
"I want you to come over," the boss said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
"Hmm, should I sneak in through the window again?" Babe asked, recalling the last time they had done something so reckless.
The boss chuckled. "No need. My mom already agreed to let you in this time. You can come through the front door like a normal person."
Babe's eyebrows shot up. "Wait, seriously?"
"Yeah. She's fine with it. Just ring the bell."
Feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, Babe grabbed his jacket and headed out the door. He took slowly steps towards Boss's house.
When he arrived, Babe hesitated for a moment before pressing the doorbell. A few seconds later, the door swung open, revealing the boss's mother. She looked at him for a brief moment, and his heart dropped, worried about what she might say or how she might feel about him being there.
But then, to his surprise, her lips curled into a warm smile. " Come in."
He blinked, unsure of how to respond. "Uh, thank you," he managed to say, stepping inside.
The tension in his shoulders eased slightly as she led him through the house. There was no trace of judgment or discomfort from her, only a kind, welcoming demeanor. Babe couldn't help but smile to himself. The boss had told the truth—his mother was okay with him being here.
After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Babe made his way upstairs. The moment he stepped onto the landing, the house felt quieter, more intimate. He knocked lightly on the boss's bedroom door before pushing it open. The room was pitch dark, the only light coming from the faint glow under the door.
"Boss?" he called out, stepping inside cautiously.
Suddenly, the room lit up. The soft yellow light from the bedside lamp illuminated the space, and there, standing in the middle of the room with a wide grin, was the boss. In his hands, he held a small box.
"What's this?" Babe asked, curiosity piqued.
The boss stepped closer, offering the box with an unusual tenderness in his gaze. "Open it."
Babe's hands trembled slightly as he lifted the lid, revealing two simple yet elegant silver bracelets inside. Each bracelet had a small, delicate letter "B" engraved on it.
"Couple bracelets," the boss said, watching Babe's reaction closely. "For us."
Babe was speechless for a moment, the weight of the gesture settling in. "You did this… for us?"
The boss nodded, slipping one of the bracelets onto Babe's wrist with care. "I know I've been careless about… us," he said softly. " Me always being playful, not paying attention to what matters. I'm sorry."
Babe stared at the bracelet on his wrist, the cool metal warm against his skin. The simple letter "B" carried so much meaning—it was their connection, their bond. He looked up at the boss, seeing the sincerity in his eyes, and felt a rush of affection flood through him.
"You don't have to apologize," Babe said, his voice soft but firm. "I get it. We've both been careless ."
"Yeah, but I don't want us to feel like we are doing a crime . I want to make our relationship public . This… us… it's important to me."
Babe smiled, reaching for the other bracelet and gently placing it on the boss's wrist. "This is perfect. And I'm not going anywhere. We just need to wait for the perfect time . You know our family condition right ? Let's just take it easy . "
For a moment, they stood in the soft glow of the room, their hands intertwined as the bracelets gleamed on their wrists, marking a quiet but powerful promise between them.
