Evelyn was letting him keep his little secret, but she had thought that he had left his life with the military behind him. From what he said about last night, he was honoring an agreement, one last deal with the army. But it seemed that he was still connected to the latter in such a way that a little badge commanded so much respect as she had seen.
"A reward for my service."
Daemon's voice brought Evelyn out of her musings. But she noticed the lack of enthusiasm when he spoke, making her try to look beyond his calm facade. She failed at the task, but she could see a bit of what Daemon had talked about this morning, a bit of the changes brought by the last six years.
"Then what would you have done if there had not been any training for skydiving today?"
Daemon responded to her smile with his own:
"I have some privileges."
