At first she thought Norma wanted to dissect her brain and run it through a computer. But she was having a much better time dealing with the memories. The nightmares that had awakened her night after night were beginning to go away. Finally, well into the second month, she slept soundly through the night.
“I’m told that you haven’t been having as many nightmares lately,” Norma said one day.
“No,” Cam said, “I don’t think I’ve had one this week.”
“That’s excellent, Cam. You’ve made a big advance. Have you thought what happened that put your nightmares aside?”
“I think I’m dealing with some things better,” Cam answered. “I’m not sure what precipitated it but I’m a lot calmer.”
“That is so good to hear. Maybe you’re getting to a point where I don’t need to see you every day. Maybe you can go home and we’ll talk by phone unless you want to come see me.”
“I’d like that, Norma, I really would.”
“Then we’ll see what can be done.”
